Pinion Preload - HELP!!!

Alright, I just figured out how the RCD30 pinion gear is to be setup. I have the right amount of backlash, correct pattern, etc. I am ready to install the pinion preload shims.

How is this done? Am I to torque the pinion bolt to 200-300 lb-lbs and have about 12 in-lbs to turn the gear?

FYI - if you ever do a set up like this, get a setup bearing and DON'T install the outer pinion seal till you are done. I learned this the hard way.

You got it right, carry on. There's no need for a setup bearing though.

I meant setup race. To set the pinion depth, it saved me a lot of time. Also, I cut 2 vees in the baffle that goes between the pinion race and the diff so I didn't have to take it out to set the pinion preload. Finally got it...talk about a PITA!
