Picking up my 78 Rabbit this weekend

Dutch, There's a convertible Cabriolet with round headlights at Colorado Auto Salvage...... Just FYI........ :dunno:

sweet... Is this gonna be your resto thread?

I guess, but I'm in no hurry with it. I'm not even sure what direction I'll be going with the build of the car.

1) Super slammed lowrider beater keeping with the "low-n-slow" theme.

2) Full restoration with very minor mods to improve over all look.

3) Fully caged w/ a supercharged VR6 mounted in the rear and ultra wide stance.

But no matter what I do, it'll have the Polezei paint scheme. I've been wanting to do that for the last 4 - 5 yrs.

What really leans me towrds the Berg-Cup race series body kit is I can get a brand new one for 600$ and it would save me a lot of fender/rust work.

I'd like to see it 'Berg'd out. Indeed, it would save you some body work and be pretty unique beyond most other Rabbits out there right? I hate that baby blue slammed bucket..... :puke: But I kinda dig the flares/race look. Kinda like a full bodied competition go kart..... :D

Brings me back to that Ghia thread a while back. I still wouldn't mind building one of those sometime......

Yep i am gonna have to agree with everyone. Wide ass stance would make one sick ass car. But then again why not just put a body kit on it and keep the stance the same?

And this is making me want one even more....

I'm afraid you lost me there. The only reasons I will put that body kit on my VW is because 1) it'll give me an actual performane advantage by allowing for wider tires and creating increased downforce with the front lower spoiler. 2) the VR6 swap will increase my width and this will allow me to fit that better 3) it is a true racing kit and not some riced out pos

VW's and bodykits don't go tegether, its not kosher by any means. you want a gay arse body kit for ne valid reason then get a Honda

reasons for the rear engine are as follows

1: with the amount of fab needed to fit a VR6 in a mkI chassis VW it'll actually be easier I think to just put it in the rear
2: I am not a fan of FWD, despite my love of watercooled VW's
3: while its been done before, its still fairly unique
4: mid-engine rwd has some serious performance advantages
4: because I can

Interesting as a mid/rear engine/transaxle install sounds.......... Wouldn't the sounds be hard to deal with? That in-cab engine noise would be a bitch.......

Well I am planning on building a firewall and cover to go over the top to keep heat/noise out of the cab a bit better.
