Performance Mods

My Jeep is a 1989 Jeep Cherokee, 2 door, 4 wheel drive

My main reason to upgrade the performance was to:

1) Bring my Renix up to the performance of an HO Jeep motor would perform at sea level, and I am at 5700 feet.

2) Prep it with bolt-on mods for my eventual stroker motor

I have gone through Dino's (Dr. Dyno) site and have gotten an idea of what I want to do, but I wanted to ask if there was anything else I should add due to the altitude reasons or because I do have the Renix motor.

Also, is there anyone who makes a kit to put an HO TB on a Renix motor without too much adapting? I would fabricate one myself, but I am lacking anything even resembling a fabrication shop.

Get some quality spark plugs/wires/cap/rotor.

Get the 5.0 Fuel injectors

K&N it

I don't remember the name of the website, but somebody makes a Renix TB spacer.

I have a Homemade K&N intake already, 9" cone filter, same one that comes with Rusty's Air Tube (upgraded one).

Im more interested in a bored out TB than the spacer, and decided If i could just convert it to run the HO TB, it would have an even bigger bore (as i would go with the 62 mm bored out HO TB) which would be more beneficial in the long run. It's just a little more difficult that way too :D.

I'll also be getting Rusty's Flowmaster Exhaust here in a week or so, Flowmaster Delta Flow 40, 2.5" Mandrel bent exhaust pipe.

I was previously thinking about getting a MSD-6 ignition system, as well as their Offroad addon (dual sparks to 2500 rpm i believe) but these get mixed reviews, and I want to know that they for sure give some sort of performance gain (efficiency or power) before I throw money at upgrades like that.

To get back to the HO TB to Renix intake, is there anyone here who has done this by having a spacer fabricated to adjust for the bolt hole differences?

You recommended 5.0 Injectors, but would that be too much injector for my Jeep at this point? Or would I just need to build a MAP adjuster to run it slightly leaner?

The combination of 62mm HO TB and Rusty's exhaust should wake up your sleepy Renix 4.0. I'd go even further and add a 2.5" high-flow cat and a custom 2.5" downpipe (a muffler shop can bend one for you).
I believe XJ Armor have the TB spacer that you'd need to bolt the HO TB onto the Renix intake.
Since you'll be making the engine breathe better than stock, go for a set of '91-'95 HO 21lb injectors rather than the Ford 19lb'ers. Another alternative is a set of Accel 21lb'ers.

The Renix ignition system kicks ass, you will not notice much of a jump.

If you're going to put hot injectors and a bit thorttle body in you'd better do other stuff, building up one end of the engine and not the other is pointless and will get you nowhere. Get yourself a header.

Renix intake to HO throttle body adapters do exist, I cannot tell you where to get them but I have one.
