hey everyone. i was wondering if anybody on this site was from the orono/bangor area in maine? the reason i ask is i keep seeing a greyish/silver xj with a rubicon express lift, bushwackers and i think 31" baja claws and i think they work at vip in old town. anybody from the area or know who's xj that might be?

Not from there but I used to spend summers with my grandparents in Castine. Welcome to NAXJA and the NAC -- get a few more Mainers and we'll be able to hold more chapter events up there. We did one down near Mt. Desert a couple of years ago, but probably half the people who showed up were "imports" who wanted to visit Maine (like me :) )

We're also working on trying to set something up with folks in Nova Scotia. Ask around and let us know if any of your mates would be interested.

Not meaning to change the topic, but I've been to the Jambo in Nova Scotia. Its geat wheeling there. The mud is clay like, and the folks are great. If you do go there, try to bring all that you might need. Although the exchange rate is usually in our favor, the sales tax is around 15%, and all those "little" things become rather expensive. Enjoy!

Its not me, but I know the rig you are talking about. I live in Bangor and have a dark blue XJ with a 3" lift and 31" AT's. Pretty easy to spot with the KC lites up front and the big Jeep Jamboree sticker on the windshield. What are your specs? Probably seen you around as well, since I pass through Orono quite a bit.

right now i have a stock 88 mj thats black with red stripes on the side on tiny 235's. i go to school at emcc for auto tech so i am in bangor everyday. i've probably seen your rig i just cant recall it right now

I also go to Unity and am up in bangor like every week or so. i have a 94 green xj with a 4.5 re lift and 34" ltbs on it. so but yea if i see any of you stop and talk. thinking we should get some runs sometime around here if anybody knows any places didnt have the funds this year to do jeep jamboree but next year im doing it for sure. so letta me know ... my xj is pretty noticable.... just ask bluexj i usually have to clean the slober off of it from him.

Hey ya'll,
I should be back in Maine sometime in late Jan/early Feb and look forward to wheelin with you all then. I have a 94 XJ with 4 1/2 inch lift, 33's, locked up, OBA, plus a whole bunch of other stuff. I belong to a couple of XJ and Jeep clubs here in Colorado as well as NAXJA. If there is enough interest i would like to start a central Maine XJ club or even a Maine NAXJA Chapter. I will keep in touch with you all between now and my return home. Oh yea, my family and I will be returning to the Waterville area and I am also planning to open a shop as well. Keep the rubber side down and remember, XJ's Rule.

Yes, MJ's would be allowed. I have seen some very built and capable MJ's out here in Colorado.

A NAXJA chapter up here would be very cool...there isn't that much going on in the central Maine area as far as 4x4 clubs go...especially for XJs...only "Jeep" club I know of is in Western Maine, near Bethel (Western Maine Mountain Jeepers). Great guys and I wheeled with them at the Jamboree, but 3 hours is a bit far to drive on a regular basis...every once in awhile is okay, but the drive gets old quick. NEWJO has a "Maine Chapter", but it is mostly for southern Maine and bits of New Hampshire...again a bit far. So something in central Maine, again especially for XJs, would be too awesome. You have my support!!!! Keep me posted on the progress of your shop as there isn't much in this area as far as a good JEEP/4x4 shop.

Forming a chapter is easy. Maintaining a chapter isn't as easy. We have already had at least one chapter (Texas) fail due to lack of interest.

The North Atlantic Chapter includes Maine, but was established to cover a large enough area to ensure membership and continuity. The only reason the NAC hasn't held more events in Maine (or Vermont or New Hampshire) is lack of interest. The event we had a couple of years ago over by Acadia had more folks from outside of Maine than natives.

The NAC has two chapter officers in MA, and I'm sure if you contact them they'll be very happy to work with you in setting up an event or two. They are Grizzley and Sidriptide.

And if an event is organized by or through NAXJA, MJs are allowed.

I know about the failed Texas chapter. I belonged to it when i lived there. I am seeing more XJ/MJ owners from Maine on here and it's great people are getting the word about NAXJA. If nothing else, we could start with a Central Maine XJ/MJ club and get enough members and support to start a Maine Naxja chapter. I hope to get everyone together for a meet and greet/trail run as soon as I get back to Maine.

i would love to have a chapter up here in maine while going to school. I would be on like every run pratically during school months. and then when im home just go to paragon and rausch. hey let me know if you need help theres a few clubs that have showed signs of starting maine chapters but everything so far seemed to fail. so it would be nice to also have a shop i go to and have NAXJA represented for once in a blue moon. take it easy and let us know whats up.
