opinon's on 8" lift...

X2 on the gearing comments earlier. If you're wanting to run a 37" tire in the mud your jeep will hate you if you're geared too tall. I would go 5:38's and never look back, which means axle swap of course. Who cares about highway MPG? It's an XJ for hell's sake. You said it's all about the mud, so gear it low and do once, do it right.

Other things to consider are driveline angles, SYE if you don't have one and shims in the rear/cut rotate the C's in the front for optimum angle, steering (which you mentioned) including beefing up the steering box area with plates/braces. And on 37" tires with lots of wheelspin in the mud, you'd be best off to stiffen the frame rails too. The unibody will take a beating if you don't.

It's an ambitious build, so yeah, more research is highly recommended. Good luck.

Yep gonna be a whole different jeep. I ve seen 37's even 38's on the D30, but they did not last long.

But hey if you wanna do it then DO IT, and wheel it

steering
axle upgrade.
unibody
trimming

GO BIG OR GO HOME RIGHT.

heehee :D Mudding is expensive and ... well, ima stop. But anywho, good luck.:skull1:

Good grief, did you stuff the Twin Towers in there? LOL. :yelclap:

No. Some inbred that sold the XJ I had to my dad before I could take a look at it.

Blocks aren't the best plan with the soft springs on an XJ anyway you look at it....or so I hear.

Shhhh, man said he has blocks. :lickout:

all of this is awesome info guys thanks a bunch. so far what im thinging of doing is getting the 6" lift an run 33's with 4.56 gears for a while then when i save up enough again i will upgrade the axles then go to 37's. but the only axles i wanna run is dana 60 front and rear if that can be done. i want the wide track then i will also upgrade to 4.88's. Does this sound like im going in the right rut.

you would need taller gears and you said go big or go home, so an xj probably isn't the rig for you like was said. With 33's you should even upgrade at least the shafts etc.

I ran 33's and 5.5 with 4.56's for a few years. When you are ready to bump up you can do coil spacers and add a leaf's. As for the trimming question even with 7 inches and 36's I still need to bumpstop more to keep out of the sheet metal

Now you're moving in the right direction - BUT - why spend the money incrementally? Meaning, if your goal is really to run 37's, I wouldn't spend money upgrading so you can run 33's and 4:56's. You won't recoup that money when you sell your stock axles. My advice, I would save the money to make the jump to 37's the first time around.

Trust me, it will save you so much time and money in the long run.

x2. And for what you want why not skip the kits? They won't be complete and with the axle swaps you'll need to fab anyway. I'd also consider front leafs. Prob. the best choice for what you want. Cheap and easy to get right.

well that is something i would love to do, jumping right to 37's but i just cant afford the lift tires all the upgrade that need to go with it and on top of it all do a axle swap. LOL im going to be doing good just saving up for the lift. NOT to mintion i am going to have to do all this on my own cuz i wont have the funds to pay someone to do it for me. i would rather do it that way anyway just cuz i wanna be able to say i built this jeep, the problem on top of that is the only tools i got is a ratchet set an a handful of renches. LOL :banghead:

Well you live in Princeton, about 45mins from Garland and 90mins from Ft. Worth and 15mins from Frisco right? There are plenty of knuckle heads here in this area that will lend a hand and some tools.

what i'd do if i was you would be to leave your jeep how it is and find your axles first. get a 14bff for the rear it's cheap and bullet proof and if you know where to look you can even find them locked and geared right. i've seen stock 14bolts with 5.13's in them which would be about perfect for 37's. the 60 front is gonna kill your pocket book unless you get lucky and find them in a junk yard with an idiot writing the ticket otherwise it's gonna cost you $600 plus. after you have those then start planning your build and expect your jeep to be on jackstands for atleast a month

that sounds like a good plan, 1 question though what trucks can i find this 14 bolt an the dana 60 under. i know a guy named burl he owns burls used cars in melissa an he has his own wreckin yard an i may get lucky an find them out there. He is like a second dad to me so he would probably just tell me to go get what i want or he would sale it to me super cheap. post picks of the axles if you can so i can tell what they look like. thanks.
