Operation Overcompensation

I am almost convinced (in my head with no experience or background what so ever).......

..........I think I can get away with the 1/4" with little or no issues with only minor truss work necessary.

Yeah, go ahead and try it. We'll watch.  :repair: :repair:

So, you're going to have a custom 609 with D30 tubes, which are thrown away because they bend so easily.

Damn, I thought we taught you better than that.

Now Richard don't be so hard on him.

After months of searching this was the only way he was able to have a "built" axle that he could still find a reason to throw away and build up another axle in two months time.

:bs:

According to Spidertrax, the 3/8" housing only has 15% more strength over the 1/4" housing. They say if I truss it it will increse the strength up to 300% (Depending on the design of the truss). They will be e-mailing me a pic of a prototype truss later today that will be in production ion the next 3 months.

As far as the chromo, they are using that option to cater to the Baja guys who don't use anything but chromoly and Spidertrax said that it is WAY overkill for our needs. It is more intended for high horsepower vehicles on the rear ends (Crazy abuse).

Actually, my biggest concern is dent resistance, not bending assuming my truss work is adequate.

This could be entertaining though

Atleast my rig runs :illegalflipoffsmilie:

My rig runs fine. It'll run 80mph all day every day.

Now of my rigs only 50% are in running order.

Just got the e-mail from them:

Here are the images of the trusses they will be producing in the long run

Way overkill, you mean like kingpins ?

Your not saying you should build for the need of the rig are you.

Anyone with experience that I have asked, said 'no way!' to ball joints.

Those people include, Mike Monohan, CTM Jack, Garry, Tom @ Spidertrax, etc. :D

Give me a reason I shouldn't listen to them. :laugh2:

So....can I ask a question that might not be socialy acceptable??
What exactly (hell, even a rough estimate) are you going to be investing in this axel anyway?
Complete....

If you have to ask you can't afford it.:laugh3: Lets just say mine will cost more than I bought the whole jeep for 7 years ago.

Have you wheeled with THEM? What about the guys you DO wheel with? Why
not take their advice since you listen to them for everything else?

Who says I listen to them for everything else? :dunno:

a decent truss will make it way stronger than even 1/2" tubes, though you may want to truss the front as well as the top, one guy on PBB bent his forward (from traction) as well as up. Like you said, dent resistance should be a bigger concern, and you could always add a little bit of plate to the lower/leading side of the tube.

so what's going in it? you said Hi9, ARB, Detroit, spool? CTMs, giant Longfield CVs? full-hydro, staying assist?

I will have a smaller truss on the top and a decent sized truss on the front.

So far, it will be alloy 35 spline cryoed inner and outers, RockCrusher Kingpin inner and outer knuckles, CTM joints, Detroit, TrueHi9, and Warn drive flanges with hydro assist (for now).

Damn, I thought we taught you better than that.

We determined that his heavy A$$ KP's will bend the ends of the tubes down, but it's ok cause his 12" long stubs sticking out 4" past his tire will act as a cantilever.
2 bads = a perfectly balance system.

Well, now you say decent truss, before you said minor trussing. Certainly, with adequate trussing, it will survive just fine.............as long as you don't hit a rock going 50 mph like Drew (goat1) did. Now, as far as denting, I think that is a concern. It weakens the metal, and you plan on having this axle for a very long time. A well built custom 60 axle should last virtually forever.

If it was me, I'd go with 3/8" just to be safe, even though the 1/4" might be OK. It's a huge investment, and it should have the best possibility of lasting.

So, what happened to the Parts Mike outers??

Parts mike outers? Everything from the inner Cs out excluding the shafts and u-joint are coming from Mike. I opted for the Rock Crusher stuff since it was fractionally cheaper than the Deadenbear stuff. We'll I had everything shipped including his rotors and what not sent to Vegas so I could avoid sales tax. Infact I think it is already there.

As far as trusses, I was thinking the nice long one in pic two in the front with smaller one like in the first pic on top on the pass side of the diff.

So Avery. With all this talk of 609's and what not, are you going to follow in the footprints of the captn and rest of the XJ-buggy crew? I mean honestly what is next cut the roof, and all the sheetmetal off to save weight? So your going to have the next generation of rock sled? Then you might as well do away with the coil springs and go fox air shocks for a set up. I have been looking into the spidertrax stuff for some time now, but for another project. There is only so much a unibody can take.. Im not bagging on you, I think the work you are undertaking is amirable. SO what is your plan with the green monster?? Good job with the atlas install...

I'll be just like the Capt, Paul, Dave, Goat and the rest of them.

As far as design, I think the Paul S style with huge boatsides and a windsheild will be the way I go (got to be able to drive it around compton :D ). Of course it won't be EXACTLY like Paul's and it will have little twists here and there.

I'm commited now after I finished my B pillar off last weekend. :|
