Old Man Emu, who has it

I think you're best off getting the OME complete suspension system, and OME vendors say that themselves. I put just the shocks on after putting on new ZJ coil springs and Qtec HD leaf packs. There was no difference in ride from my old shocks which had been on the vehicle since I bought it back in the early Jurassic. And thats comparing apples to apples, the new springs with the old shocks vs new springs with new OME shocks. I should mention that I have not had the vehicle off road yet since I put the OME shocks on about a month ago.

I just talked to Dirk at DPG about the OME stuff. He suggested not to run a 1" lift shackle with the leafs and add the OME AAL to the pack instead. I hate AAL's. Anyone running lift shackles with there OME springs? Have any problems?

I'm running OME leafs with a small 1" JKS boomerang. I wouldnt go any more than that. the OME AALs are GREAT, I'm gonna get a couple when I get back.

the difference between OME AALs and everyone else....

OME AALs are the same thickness and arch as the rest of their leaf pack...they are meant to compliment their leaf pack.

Everyone else makes AALs that are thicker than your average leaf, or more heavily arched. Thats how you end up with a :puke: ride.

do both :) thats how I plan to get up to around 5" of lift :)

I just picked up a Xj from a buddy. He has some goofy long arm setup with RE springs and 32" tires. Got some body damage thats getting fixed. I want to put it on 31" tires.

See my previous post. And NO, not one problem even under the numerous times Ive been "Prerunning" The local riverbed, which is just whoopdedoo washboard sinkholed odd rock stickin up outta the sand WHEEEEE!

If you want to keep it on a budget, get some ZJ coils springs and a small spacer, some BroncoII leafs for a bastard pack and go to town. Spend the money you saved on the OME shocks, since that's where alot of the ride comfort will come from. I lifted mine 2.5 inches this way, but skimped out and went with some KYB shocks from a ZJ/MJ and am really happy with the ride for a daily driver. Flexes well, comfortable on the road and offroad as well. If I had spent the money on a good set of shocks, like the OME's, I'm sure the ride would be just that much better. I should also note that I run no front or rear sway bar, but keep the speeds in moderation.

Thanks for the info

The OME AALs are fine--I got perhaps another half inch lift and a little stiffer ride, which is what I was looking for. My OME springs and shocks also came from DPG. Make sure you BS the back--the springs flex so much they will flex up into the "frame" if you don't. Oh, and when they say it's a 3" lift, it IS a 3" lift--none of that 5.5" 3" lift business, so plan accordingly.

I have had an OME kit(930coils, jc2b leafs and normal ride shocks)about 5 years now, I give it a high recommendation. You may need to install 5 inch sway bar links(used on xj's with up country option) if your stock sway bar links interfere with the coil spring as mine did.

I've been running a 2" OME kit for a couple of years now (almost, if not just as long as Mike H. has been running his), and love it.

I can't think of anything to add to what the other posts have already said - OME is as good as it gets.

Oh, and don't be afraid to take it out on the trail and twist it up, because it will really surprise you with what it's capable of.

I bought the 2" rear leafs from Dirk at DPG. I wanted 3" but Dirk said the 3" had a heavy overload spring that would limit flex. He sold me the 2" spring with a full lenghth add a leaf. The beuty of OME is their add a leafs are nothing more than a full lenghth leaf that rides next to the main. When I did mine I was one of the few that saw the benifit of running 35's and as low a lift as possible so I went with 3" of lift and JKS 1" lift shackle. It sucked because I bottomed out all the time so I added another full lengh leaf. Now it works right and I may add an aditional leaf if the rear sags. I removed the spring clips so the leafs all fan out during droop. They flex great. If I had to do it over I would consider nothing but Deaver leafs to match my Deaver coils. You can benifit from real racing technology and shocks that are valved for the springs. Personally I think my OME are great leafs but I had to put two add a leafs in and am considering a third. Call Deaver and buy the good stuff once and forget about the crap these lift kit companys and so called suspension experts shove down your throat. They are all garbage compaired to Deavers. Suspension is what it's all about and we have racers tweeking the technologgy in springs and shocks for us, so use it. You have to call them directly and tell them what you are doing. Ask for the Jeepspeed dude and tell him you want springs but also that you want them for. Today the Jeepspeed guys have gone very stiff so you need to tell them you are not a full tilt racer and you want a good combo of lift and flex. They have what you need but you won't find it on any website or even on theirs. Get the 5.5" progressive coils to match and cut them down to match the rear if you need too.
