Post 'em up here. What apps do you have that you think are cool, interesting, or just plain good to have?

I'm definitely a bit of a techno-tard so this is gonna be a bit of a learning experience, but all I ever hear is folks saying that these smart phones are the thing to have.

Where's the good ring tones and other free stuff at?

Get the google sky map it's sweet u can find all the stars and planets, I have the iPhone but my girl find has the droid. Let me know if u need some help

No idea where to get free ringtones but. Battery status is a good one to have. Weather bug is another. One I really like is g-mote. Not sure if you have that one or not, but you can control your computer from your phone. (Music) Imusic tao is one for free music. Ringtone editor is one where you put your own music on your phone, and you can edit it how you want the ringtone to be.

Let ME know if you need help with it... :D

Zedge has free ringtones or you can load misic on to you SD card and make your own with Ringdroid.

I also like Pandora radio, Advanced task killer, Google Sky, My Tracks (does GPS tracks and loads them to google earth), Droidlight, Bubble, Realcalc.

Games: Air Control, Traffic Jam, Robo Defence, Coloroid, Toss it

Troy, welcome to the cool kids club!

My favorites are: Pandora, Handcent (texting threads like iPhone), Motris (Tetris type game), Air Control, Abduction, Google Earth, Google Sky, just to name a few...

I'm in the same boat, I just got a "My touch 3G Slide" and I gotta tell ya this phone makes me feel like I've been out of the loop for aaawhile. So yea, I know nothing about downloading apps or anything yet.

I am a little bit ahead of you Troy, since you only started texting about a month ago :gag:

mabilo ring tones is free, i use that and imusic for free music downloads, c:geo for geocaching, gps logger for my lat and lon, google sky maps, drunkblocker, droid light, my tracks, and i have some toggle switch widgets that make turning the ringer and gps and wifi on and off a 1000x easier, there's more i just can't remember at the moment

Thanks guys! Yeah, I spent hours last night scrolling throught the free apps out there and saw many of those you've mentioned. I got Pandora all set up which is cool - I use it here at home and at work, never thought about it working with a smart phone and running it through the car stereo. Bummer is that the truck has the stock head unit, so I don't imagine I can make it work in the vehicle I drive the most. The XJ has a USB cable set up, but I guess I need an adapter to go from the large USB to the smaller right?

I downloaded the metal detector - kinda cool! I guess it uses the antenna as the sensor but it works fairly well.

Having issues setting up my e-mail accounts. Got a G-mail account set up when I bought the phone, but it won't connect to the servers to get my Comcast account e-mails. Gotta call tech support I guess.

I got the flashlight app as well, that definitely will come in handy.

I also loaded an app for instant sound recording - definitely a good tool for work. Hoping I can find an app that will provide instant sound and video - that would be optimal.

Not much for the games - don't need the time-wasting temptation...... :D

Saw a thread somewhere on line where a guy found an app that uses a remote OBDII plug that will transmit to your smartphone and give you real time ECU data and will also let you configure your phone's display to show gauges - the program allows for you to change the display so that it shows a mirror image, then you lay the phone on the dash and it'll reflect on the windshield like a true heads-up display........ now THAT's cool.

i had it for a little while but it kept force closing so i uninstalled it until it improves

Get yourself an otterbox case too http://www.otterbox.com/motorola-cases/droid-by-motorola-cases/ this thing has saved my blackberry countless times. Well worth the $50 or so that is costs.

Yeah, I already picked up the cover with holster sold at the Verizon store:

And I got the stick on display protector as well. With all the crawlin' around on the ground under jeeps that I do, I knew it was gonna need protection. Ya shoulda seen my old phone...........
