If not there, where? is a slogan that we hope will soon be heard in Olympia from hundreds of motorized off road users on March 25, 2005 if the Northwest Outdoor Coalition (NOC) a coalition of dedicated off road vehicle users of every type, has its way.

That is the date that was picked tonight for a Rally/Demonstration in Olympia by this dedicated core group representing motorized users of ATV, 4WD, Rally Car, Motorcycle, Sports Car,

Motocross, Enduro, Poker Run, Play Riders, Trail Riders, Off Road Racers, etc.

These people are fed up with what is happening in Olympia and want to draw attention to it in the mainstream press!

Some of the current things that are going on in Olympia _

Will virtually eliminate your right for you and your kids to operate your motorized off road vehicles on your own private property!

Require special riders licensing to operate your off road vehicle on public land.

Eliminate any chance of re-opening the only motorized sports park in Western WA (Thurston County ORV).

Steal $1.6 million of your NOVA funds to pay the thief so the thief can repay the victim (YOU).

And Much More!

It will take everyone that this email is addressed to and many more to bring this about. The go-no-go decision date is March 9, 2005.

Enough people will have to step up and promise to attend before March 9, 2005 or this event will not happen and the Legislature will know they can do as they damn well please and continue to trample the off road motorized users as an insignificant minority. You can bet they will know about this attempt in short order!

Volunteers are sorely needed to actively work the various committees RIGHT NOW! This event will require volunteers to step up and staff committees for signage, funding, sign-up, permits, group co-ordination, press release generation, designated spokespeople, etc. and DO IT NOW!

1) Just hit REPLY TO this email now ([email protected]) and tell us you will ATTEND this Rally driving your vehicle with your motorized off road vehicle in the back or on the trailer behind, so we can create a list of attendees.

2) FORWARD this email to ALL of your motorized off road user FRIENDS!

3) Send an email to [email protected] to volunteer to help with one of these committees!

IF NOT NOW, WHEN?

Your Northwest Outdoor Coalition

If your interested in attending reply to: [email protected]

So if you have the day off and can, please attend so that someday our children will have a chance to go offroading also.
I would love to attend, but I haven't had a five day week at work in a month.

I know there are proposed issues, I'd just like some reference numbers for them so I can read in depth about them. Was there anything posted where you got this?

Unfortunatily not, there was nothing posted about what Legislative issues. I think this rally is more about showing the number of off-highway users, not any certain issue before the legislature. It would be nice to get on the 5'o clock news, and show that we aren't just a bunch of drunk rednecks dumping garbage everywhere.

Agreed. I emailed the address above for examples. Just nice to have a full understanding of what I'm protesting. :D I *know* of some past bills, but I've been outta the loop for a while now. We'll see what I get back from them!

Here is the bill being protested http://www.leg.wa.gov/pub/billinfo/2005-06/Htm/Bills/House Bills/1455.htm
Along with the with the fact that they want to give Thurston co. 1.6 million to pay off the state for 1.6 million they have already taken for a ORV park that no longer exists.
We the taxpayers(taken from gas taxes) will be paying 1.6 million twice for a ORV park that does not exist.
We are being raped here people, its time to start making a stand.

Heard through the grapevine that the steps were full of folks...an estimated 700+. :) Also heard one of the Representatives responsible for the above bill came out and apologized.

WTG!!!

:D

Does anyone know if it got any air time on the News???

Here's an email I got from one of the coordinators:

The ORV Rally yesterday was a huge success thanks to you! Those of you that were there obviously got your riding friends to attend. Those of you that could not attend obviously got others to attend for you. The Seattle TV News stations are reporting that the ORV users “gridlocked Olympia.”

One of the most amazing aspects was the speech by Senator Sheldon where he apologized to all the ORV users for ever putting the language in SB5089 which would have made it illegal to operate one’s own ORV within 600 feet of your own property line! He assured all of us that no anti-ORV legislation will become law this session.

Many of the speakers at yesterday’s Rally implored us to build on the activist base we have established with the Rally and to channel that energy into specific actions with the legislature, now and in the future. I have volunteered to work with the sign-up lists, the contact information we obtained via the [email protected] email, and every ORV contact from all the organizations involved in yesterday’s Rally to compile one database of the ORV user’s that have demonstrated a willingness to do something. There really are a lot of us!

I intend to work on the creation and maintenance of a database containing active ORV users by their respective representative(s) and senator. That way we will be able notify the specific constituents of the involved representatives, in both the House and the Senate, of our ORV related desires and concerns directly through their own personal constituents as we continue to watch the legislative actions in Olympia on a daily basis.

Senator Sheldon’s speech yesterday, making a direct and sincere apology to the entire off road community, was probably the most astounding thing I have ever seen happen in Olympia. It happened because his ORV user constituents spent the time to educate him! We all owe John Eaton, his friends and customers for this one!

I know that many of us do not have the time to review everything that is happening in Olympia every day the Legislature is in session. However, some ORV users and I already watch this every day as closely as we can by subscribing to the WA Legislative Responder Lists that show almost all the daily activity.

Just think how effective it would be to have a database of active ORV users indexed by Representative and Senator that could quickly be contacted via email or telephone, be informed of exactly what is happening, who is doing it and be given the suggested information for provision to their personal elected representative. We will hold real power in Olympia if we can build and maintain this type of network!

Email calls to action for people on this network will be limited to legislative ORV issues. Separate sub-categories for other common interests will be established for other non-ORV related issues as they come up which would include only those who desire to also be involved in those issues.

I have started work on this project but need your help to make it happen. I also know that many of us, me included, are reluctant to provide personal information to others via the internet. However, even I am willing to provide my email address – [email protected], name – Dave Hiatt, and home (voting) zip code – 98443, to just about anyone.

Your preferred email address, name and home (voting) zip code are all we need to make this Constituent Legislative Online User Target (CLOUT) system work! We need CLOUT in Olympia!

Please take one easy step to help us do this.

Just reply to this email and type in your name and home (voting) zip code as text in your response.

Those of us working on this will then work to get this system up and running.

Thank you,

Dave Hiatt – NMA Volunteer, TMC member, Blue Ribbon Coalition life member, NOC steering committee member and most importantly an active off road user who is sick and tired of us getting our butts kicked by those who want to destroy our sport!

Thanks Phil that is a great email to bring to our attention. I agree we need C.L.O.U.T. in Olympia. I will be signing up in a second. I hope other will follow suit.

Now what about pics??? This thread ISN'T worthless without pics. But come on feed a guy a bone.
