OEM motor mounts suck…

I purchased ones from napa their balkamp house brand, and they seem ok so far. They have been in there for a few thousand miles,,i guess we will see, tho the looked like the mopar ones which lasted all 115k miles.

Who’s got the best aftermarket replacements? RawBrown? MORE? Someone ells?

I’m tired of the clunk and its time to fix it right. I don’t expect a Cadillac ride but I also don’t want passengers to wonder if the something is wrong, or my grandma to wonder if her teeth will fall out.

I’d like to hear from those of you who are actually using, or have used these products.

Thanks

I put in a set of MORE (rubber) mounts on my DD approx 1 yr ago... to replace a set of OEM that were shot after only 200k! I got quite a bit more vibration than the spent stockers... but that has gone away "some" with time. No more hairy "clonk-clonks" when I goose it though.

I tried aftermarket/oem from Advance Auto on my trail rig... LOL $22/pr and I got what I paid for... two seasons of wheeling and apprx 20k DD use and they are shot. I think they had a lifetime warranty, but I'd have to find the receipt 1st, then uninstall them & exchange.

I'd advise replacing the tranny mount at the same time as the motor mounts.

If you have motor mount problems, you might want to check the tranny mount. I've found that whenever I had motor mounts go, the tranny mount was shot. I think a bad tranny mount will help lead to the motor mounts going bad.

Yeah, they're really crap. My originals only lasted 150,000 miles or so. Can't understand why they didn't go to at least 300,000 ...

I really like it when your true colors RISE to the top Eagle.

I hear a little BEEZIL in that tone, dont you ?

Thanks for all the input everyone, especially those of you who pointed out the differences between real OEM and part house junk; that’s why I asked, to get that kind of quality insight. I could have done without the unchecked sarcasm but… I think I’ll go with Ryan’s just to try something new, even though he wont post any pics of the darn thinks

yeah stockers suck. i am on my second pair (they are on order) of MORE mounts. when i noticed the same thud in my 93 manual that I was getting from my 99 auto i poped the hood and called local 4wd shop same day.

the '99 has some vibes at idle i am wondering as to how the manual will do.

I tried some of Ryans mounts only to have the engine move forward and put the fan into the radiator while in AZ with friends. I took them apart and modified them with a ring welded to the outer piece and cut the rubber down a bit with a hack saw. THEN, I got a set of prototype mounts from Ryan, so I installed them. The rubber in that set squished down way too quick and the motor sat low in the mounts. The motor did NOT move for and aft though. I have recently removed that set and went back to the modified set that I got from Ryan in the first place. No offense to Ryan, but if I were to get mounts again, I would purchase MORE units OR build my own from LCA bushings. Jeff

You folks dismissing the OEM style mounts, are you running parts store junk or Jeep factory bushings?

The difference in quality and durability could not be more stark.

They'll never be as strong as the fully bushed mounts like Ryan's, etc, but they las a long time, and are totally vibe free.

Yeah, mine lasted about 120K miles till I had to replace them. And that was primarily due to the fact that the rubber got cooked from the heat on the drivers side (all the exhaust stuff is right there) and hardened and cracked. Put another set of stock ones in and they are working perfect (so far).
The passenger side one though is in my spare parts bin that I take on the trail and even though you can see it being used, it's still in a pretty good shape.

Anymore comments on MORE, Rawbrown's, or OEM? I need some new ones after 206K original miles in my 91'. Ryan did my gear and axle install so I'm a little biased towards him, but the MORE bombproof ones look real nice and beefy. Are Ryan's new motor mounts on his site or is this the 1st version of them, they look a tad less beefy then MORE, but have nice thick rubber bushings surrounding the sleeve, looks like twice as much as MORE so it should have less vibes.

I think I could get used to the vibes, this is for my trail only Jeep. I like how beefy/bomproof the MORE mounts are. I'm waiting to get a pic of Ryan's mounts to compare. Ryan's definately look like they have a much larger bushing for less vibes.

I went with the MORE’s in the end. They have the name I guess. RB just didn’t give me that warm fussy felling when I e-mailed him with questions, and I felt like the info on his web site was inadequate. I know Raw is a great guy and I’m not dogin’ him. I’m just being honest about how I made my choice. After what some have said I sounds like the stealership may not be a bad option.

If you want to come help me put them in, I’ll tell you how well they work. I just haven’t had the gumption to do it with the heat lately.
