Obama and the DOJ and EPA

Bad part is, those goons only want a conviction, fine paid and a note in their record. They don't give a damn about the environment or anything else. They might spend 3 million dollars to collect a 17K fine, and put the "offending" company out of business.

I especially like the confiscating antique instruments. "Oh, it was made 300 years ago? well, fine, you just get us the manufacturers paperwork on that and we'll let you on your way!"

OK, maybe I was wrong. Maybe it's not just goons at the DOJ padding their conviction record,..

It has come out that Juszkiewicz is a Republican donor, while the CEO of one of his principal competitors, C.F. Martin & Company, is a Democratic donor. Martin reportedly uses the same wood, but DOJ hasn’t raided them, leading to speculation that the Obama administration is sending a warning to Republican businessmen that they had better not oppose his re-election, lest they face criminal investigations. Normally such speculation would not be credible, but Eric Holder has politicized the Department of Justice to a point where such questions must be taken seriously.

Gibson employs approx 1200 workers in plants in 3 states. Raids on the company, searching for illegal wood used in the manufacturing of their guitars has cost Gibson approx $3,000,000.00.

A similar raid was conducted in 2009, of which wood, records and equipment were confiscated by armed Federal agents and to date, no charges have resulted from that raid. Gibson produced affidavits proving that their wood was obtained legally.

The suggestion by the Federal government that Gibson, a US-based company, move their operations to Madagascar to avoid any potential fines for using wood from that country proves just how interested the Obama Administration is in promoting job growth in the US.

On a related note, August 2011 was the first time in 66 years that the economy had a net zero jobs created for a month. Weekly hours worked also fell, as did wages.

Hope something Changes soon.........

I was about to create a thread titled "United States of America vs. Ebony Wood in Various Forms" concerning this subject... yes, that is the actual lawsuit involved. They didn't sue Gibson, they sued the wood itself. Seems to me that the wood probably won't have a very good defense.

more and more I realize that the federal government is simply too corrupt and bloated to be fixed.

Some more - http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20...ll-us-what-law-they-think-weve-violated.shtml

And the actual suit: http://dockets.justia.com/docket/tennessee/tnmdce/3:2010cv00747/48385/

Nature of Suit: Forfeiture / Penalty - Drug Related Seizure of Property
I'm so glad ebony wood is considered drug related now, isn't the war on drugs going so well?
