hi i own a 01 ford focus. i also own an 89xj but that doesn't concern me. my focus here recently has been making a loud churning noise coming from the engine compartment. you can hear it in the car really good. I was just wondering what this could be. everthing is running good, it just concerns me. Thanks

Well, it increases with rpm and intensity. So it's a rotational noise but with the engine, not the drive line. Almost sounds like something rubbing everytime engine makes full revolution or two revolutions.

Saying that makes me think its belt related.

FYI - posts like this go in Other Tech, not OEM Tech.

Are you due for a timing belt? I had a Honda that the timing belt started coming apart and was slapping around inside the plastic cover.

Don't know if Ford is still using plastic timing belt tension pulleys on the Focus, like they did on the Contour, but I have seen those seize and rub on the belt cover. I'd say take the serpentine belt off and start the engine to see if the noise is alt, water pump etc, or someting else, but it looks like a P.I.T.A to do so.

I appreciate the feedback guys. I will take the serpentine belt off. If it quits its something to do with accessories, if it doesnt it has to be the timing belt. Thanks

if you have a real response do it.

One minute your crying about NOT getting responses to you threads. The next minute you're crying about not wanting a response. :dunno:

Fords aren't bad. But everyone is sueded to one side or the other. I also own a frame off restoration 68' mustang fastback, I would never get rid of.
