Well A buddy of mine e-mailed me a few days ago to see if I was interested in trading his close to finished project MJ for my XJ.

I mulled it over with the wife and we went ahead and traded last night. It is 100% rust free!!

Now my little 4 cyl MJ will become a DD soon (need seats and tires) and the big one will be a trail rig.

It's an '87 4.0L AW4 currently 2wd...needs a 4wd AW4 and a D-300 since it has a 10 bolt Pass drop front or swap in a HP-44 and get an AW4/231 in it.

14 bolt rear end. SOA rear with about 4" more of lift between an AAL and a shackle and the front is leaf sring converted (quite nicely too...I could easily put it back stock in a weekend if I wanted). THese are 315/75-16's (34's) on it now. I'll regear it to 5.38's and run 35's or 37's.

I'm supposed to be in St Louis on July 4...I don't know if this thing will be 'ready' by then anyway.

AW4/231 in your wrecked one?

In good shape? How much?

Well dag nabbit. 8(
Guess ill just have to see it some other time when I come down.

Yea, aw4 less than 15k miles on it. 8)
No, sold the 231 8( Sure i could find you one if needed though. 8)
I was asking 450 but make me an offer, Im scrapping the body so Ima have an axle fender, trans and doors in my garage now taking up space... lol
Very good shape.

How quick do you need it gone...getting to you to get it will be a chore.

Is $300 good?

I can't pay in full right now BUT can scrape it together and pay you as we go...then come get it when I pay it off...?

I think I'm just going to keep the 10 bolt in it and run a D-300 non flipped. A D-44 driver drop would be nicer but not a big enough upgrade for the work needed to get it in.

I think I could settle for 350. 8) lol
And that's fine... just lmk when ya wanna start payin.

Yea, I wouldn't go to crazy with the axles. I'm either going to end up with 3/4s or tons under mine and about 12" in the end. Right now I'm just on 6.5. But it'll be tot revamped here ina few months hopefully. Wanting 2 run 40s. 8) but yea, I mean if u still haven't been able 2 get up 2 get it, I could prolly bring it down when I come 4 o july if ya were willin to throw a lil extra cash in. 8) but hit me up on my cell if ya need and we can talk... 6785491348.

I might give you a call...but I will let you know when I can start paying. $350 sounds good.

We'll be back in Ocala (well Belleview actually) on or about 7/7.

I may be able to take a day road trip and just come up and get it before then.

I gotta get this thing 4wd. The front axle is supposed to match the rear gear wise and if it does...I think I will just shave the 14 bolt bottom and leave it 4.10's and be done. We don't 'crawl as it were' and I can regear it when I can afford to. I'll probably end up on 34's or small 35's...the 315/75-16's it has now are just a smidge over 33" tall anyway.

Ight man, sounds good.
Ya can txt me anytime as well.

But sounds good.
What I can do is if its paid for I can just drop it off on th way back... lol
but yea, I hear ya. Im wanting to go big... lol Ive always wanted an xj on at least 39s 8) But Im thinkin I can run 40s to 44s... 8)
and a manche that good looking has to be 4x4 and right. 8)
I would run 35s with it. 8) I think it'd look perfect on 35s.

Yeah I am thinking a new set of 315/75-16's or some 34's or 35's would be perfect.

34 LTB's and loose those damn leaf springs on the front. Never understood why someone would go backwards. :banghead:

lol. Na, i think 35" bog's... lol that fl muds not nice. 8(
and x2^ on the leafs... lol
but more work 2 convert back... 8(
4link on all 4s would be HELLA awesome though...

Nah clayton crossmember and ironman4x4fab long arms and you are done. Well except for the Ballistic Fab brackets.

I could put it back to stock in a weekend. It is in no way hacked or cut up. All the factory mounts are still there and in factory condition.

BUT my first MJ I built was on leaves...and Glen you saw it perform at the crawl in '05.

Travis (yellowxj) had his on leaves a quite a while and it works so well.

Leaves are not a step back...just a step sideways. Plus it's a hell of alot simpler and CHEAPER to work on.

I've built and wheeled 2 TJ's and multiple XJ's. I'd take a well built leaf setup over coils every day of the week. If I wanted a full on rock buggy...totally different story...but I'd build that from the ground up.

Step backwards...Glen...driven off any RTI ramps lately? LOL (sorry I had to toss that in there) And the ref says KEEP THE GLOVES UP!!!

Yes they do work well. Do they work as well as a linked suspension. no. And I have not driven off any RTI ramps lately. Actually if you look around I think there is a picture of me on an RTI ramp and I did not even fall off of it! :rof: :) ;)

Why don't they work as well as a link suspension? That's an opinion. If the rig still gets you where you want to go...and does so reliably and safely...I'd say it's a wash on what type of suspension you have.

I've had both...they both work and can be built to work well. So THERE! HAH! LOL :)
