Niagara Rim trail?

Looks like sand bar flat campground is closed all year due to pg&e construction

That's correct I completly forgot about that, there's a tiny dam they have been working on for the last few summers. I think they will be finished sometime in august this year.

There's some sweet camping spots all along 5N01 on the way to Relief, if you don't mind undeveloped camping

Nice, might head along there soon then. I'm always looking for new places along 108. Fires ok around there or are they currently banned?

that looks like fun. I need to head out to relief reservoir next time. All we ever do is undeveloped camping. That looks fun.

There's a ranger station in Mi Wok that will issue you a fire permit. I've never had a problem getting one, 5n01 is 7000-8000' elevation and not nearly as dry the foot hills. Even this time of year it gets really cold there. We camped there last august and it got into the high 30*s at night. I rock a hammock and a zero degree bag so I was good to go, had a hard time convincing my friends it could get that cold in august and they froze a bit.

The best part about camping way up there is the view of the stars. Get far enough away from your fire that you can't see any light from it and look up. Way less smog and ZERO light pollution, the stars seem so much more bright and vibrant!

That's good to here about the stars. I used to do geology trips out in the middle of nowhere pretty often for classes and the stars were always amazing. I'll be heading up as soon as I get my transmission figured out and a couple days off in a row.

Finally got a chance to go check out the trail thanks to 93FoothillCherokee and Drftem. Had a blast, and figured out what needs to be modified next.

Had my first trail carnage....

Inexperienced driver and a bad line, the tree will win every time.
