Hey everybody. I am currently stationed in Alaska and i am planning on lifting my xj real soon. I was wondering when or if i do get out and move back home what is legal to drive on the road in the lovely state of new hampshire. just curious, thanx

right now im at 6.5" and 35's. the cops usually just stare at me and nod when i drive by. i dont have a rear bumper on eather and i havnt had any problems. ive been driving around like this for about 4 months now. Dont take this for absoloute fact tho, it could just be the cops in my town dont care.

I keep reading this quote on a bunch of sites:
the web said:
NEW HAMPSHIRE

No vehicle's height (and we're talking loaded too), may be taller than 13 feet 6 inches. Don't change the height or alter the bumper in any way that would make it farther than 20 inches from the ground.
I'm not sure where this info originated, though. I've seen this same paragraph on at least 4 different sites now...

From talking to some guys that do inspections, a few cops, and random guys, most times the rule that I hear in my area is that the bottom of your bumpers can't be more than 30 inches off the ground. I've never actually checked out the written laws though.

I do know that there is a law about how close the frame of your vehicle can be to the ground (an issue if you lower your car) and supposedly there is the flipside of that law where your frame can't be more than a certain distance off the ground (I've read the one pertaining to lowering, but haven't ever seen the one for lifts...it may just be BS).

I know a few people with trucks that lifted high enough that they had to find ways around the bumpers being too high. Tacking an extention onto the bottom of your bumper can give you more room to lift, and some guys will put their stock tires back on for inspection.

the bottom of your bumper cant be higher than 30 inches, ive got friends that have been measured and ticketed
