New XJ Owner!

Just introducing myself...I just bought my first XJ last weekend, an '86 Cherokee Chief. Kind of a re-introduction to four wheeling. I am a former CJ-5 Owner, and also have a '90 Nissan 4X4. Been driving older BMW's for the past few years so this is a real change for me.

I am John, my co-pilots are Gary, 14, Travis, 13, and Rebecca , 7. They are excited to try this off roading thing too. As Gary is almost 15, and will be driving soon, this will end up being his, and I'll end up buying another one in the spring!

I'm still too new to post attachments, so I'll post a pic or two when allowed!

John, welcome to the gang.

Congrats! Ive only had mine about 3 - 4 months, but every day I love it more, and you will too!

Side note, theres some great peepz here, willing to help with good info and not quick to dog ya... so you came to a good place.

Even after asking noob questions, I still feel some love here! HAHA!

Welcome. Its a good idea to get a son into 4x4ing. It will teach him situational awareness and driving skills.

Ouch! As a graduate of Proformance High Performance Driving school, as well as the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, I take offense to that. Lets got out onto an autocross course and see who hits more cones!

Just remember, I have to shift for myself too!

Wow, all this without knowing MY driving background? :D

http://www.evoc.org , not to mention the US Army Humvee drive-by shooting school. :D:D:D

I'll fly Dan Starc back to the States to take you on if you REALLY want a challenge. Ask me about that next time you're here. That bastid's got some stories. Sheesh...

Did you get to be the stiff in the back of the ambulance, or the school girl crossing the road in the emergency lane-change maneuver? :)

In an AutoX you can't spin people...that might neutralize your advantage some. No fair shooting out tires, either.

Driver, goof. ;) Did my first course in a 95 Caprice (LT1 option...holy FAWK that was a fast car!) and ran subsequent ones later in Phords. Meh, the Caprice was faster. :)

No PIT maneuver? Wuss. :D I suppose you don't want me calling a buddy to lay spike strips across the track either... Sheesh.

i think your relative proximity to the canadian border caused you to leave me and my prizewinnings COMPLETELY out of the nwchapter section of the naxja newsletter, hans. i am hurt, really i am.

JUST FOR THE RECORD, i used the $75 LES SCHWAB GIFT CERTIFICATE (which was supposed to be for an alignment, it said) towards a new front tire. the manager was nice enough to honor a gift certificate from the other store even though it said "only redeemable at such and such store". i used the new tire and my brand new full size spare as fronts, and moved my fronts to the rear as a cheaper option to buying 4 new tires like i was considering. the rears were cupped SO bad and one of them had like 6 nails in it. i also won a DVD of some trail runs done by a guy with a really nice yellow CJ8 - i forgot the name of the video series.

i'm done!

Nice to have you on board. I got my XJ in February and love it!! Found some good people and good info with NAXJA. If I ever get my rig ready to hit the trails hope to see you out there.

That was my copy of Rick Russell's Off-Highway Adventure Series, #17 Pucker Ridge. :)

Rick's Jeep is actually a 1956 CJ-6. :) Main difference between a 6 and an 8 is the overhang behind the rear wheel.

I'm sorry I knew you won but must have just forgot. No harm intended.

So you bringing that DVD to next NWfest? We just need to find a portable DVD player. OR we could all climb in Howard's motorhome and watch it:)
