Well, I have just joined this site in a quest for more information at the XJ. I am thinking of picking one up as a Daily Driver so I can have 4WD, little higher entry in to the vehicle and a little more interior space for myself and my 18 month of daughter.

Anyway, I tried searching the FAQ and other areas on here, but is there a general collection of information on the XJ to help a potential buyer? What to look for? What options are available on what years? Etc...

I know I want 4 door, 4WD, 4.0L I6, and automatic. If there is any kind of "tow package" I would like to have that as well. As I said it will be a daily driver, but I wanted something maneuravable for the "urban" jungle, but still capable off-road if I want to have some fun. And I want something that can tow a smaller trailer or jet ski. What are the differences between the Sport and Limited? Were there very many Limiteds made, or are more of them the Sport? Things like that.

So, any input, links, etc to information along those line to help with my search would be appreciated. I do plan on buying the newest one that fits my budget (probably the $8000-$12000 range) with the lowest mileage and good maintenance history. And probably something stock or close to stock as a starting point.

search around the OEM tech forum there are lots of questions like this asked all the time, and tons of information. use the search function (advanced feature, its not that hard to figure out)

Good luck on the search, the newest you'll be able to find is '01 if you didnt know that already, so dont get discouraged if you cant find anything newer :)

BTW 8,000 is more than enough for a Chero in GREAT shape.

Thanks for the input and looking suggestion. The hardest thing I have found with the "Search" function so far is trying key words or phrases that pull what I am looking for. And, yes, I did know that the '01 was the newest I would find and that is fine with me. As long as it is clean, well taken care of and low mileage.
