New shocks by King...

Oh and to answer your question, it’s just a trade off between the actual integrity of the mount for an inch of travel. IMO if you’re beating on your rig the opportunity cost is far from lucrative when you’re dealing with a shock that expensive. While I’ve never seen that type of catastrophic failure i speak of it’s not worth the gamble.

Heim mount = a mount that covers more surface area (surface area with a surface as thin as sheet metal, what is it 16 gauge?) You’re going to want to cover more than the inch or so of diameter that the main eye bushing covers. My two cents

I’ve got hairline cracks in mine and its about time I started plating and prep for the heims.

Your kidding me right? I have some bilsteins on my xj and drive it like I stole it and even have EVS's on the front ones and let the EVS/Shock limit up travel. and I pulled a shaft out of the shock and the EVS just fell apart, yet not one issue with the shock (nor the mounting area)..

I think it has alot to do with many factors, but the stock upper mount last just fine in most all cases if used. and that extra 2" of shock length is a big deal I feel.

my hockey puck bumps came loose and i was using my shocks for bumps without knowing for a good part of a rough day. And yes it did result in cracking of the upper mount. I highly doubt i'm the first to have cracks up there even with bumps.

I wonder if your shock is in actuality to long and so your on the full compression to much and then yes. if you dont have any "shock" before you "bottom" out the shock then the force your hitting the shocks end would be significant. but any GOOD shock will significantly stop most up travel force after 6" of compression...

Extending it...

And compressing it..

I'm strapped at about 11's of travel so no the shock is not the limit factor. Shocks were rubi twin tubes. I've blown like 3 sets and rubicon will replace em for free when they blow, I'm about 10 minutes away so i just head on over plop them on the counter and their cool about it. Its time to fork over some dough to make the front handle like the rear. I dig the buggied out xj, is that in JV?

What do you think of the EVS's? How long did they last for you?

Loved em. WIsh they were still available locally. I would put a new set on my 7100's.

after bumping off them Hard ALot (to soft of valving, reson for 7100's and such) they started to fall apart. Maybe 2 yrs but about 12 trails and such. so hard to gauge how long..
