Since I'm going to an all black (or Agate) interior in my 98 Sport, compliments of my 2000 donor Limited, I decided to do a little "customizing"

Fixed up the console from the 2000. Painted it chili pepper red and re-upholstered with black headliner. I also re-did the whole headliner in black. I painted the cargo light bezel and speaker grills with chili pepper red as well:

How was removal and stripping of the headliner? I need to do this sometime soon if my XJ doesn't sell.
I just did it a couple of days ago. Not hard, just time consuming. I did it on my own - would really help to have a buddy assisting though...

The old lining will just about fall off once you take the headline board out - then spend the next 10-20 minutes sanding and/or brushing the old glue off the board.
Importantly, ensure you have the CORRECT spray glue - i.e. made specifically for headliners - that roof gets pretty damn hot in summer and you don't want your new headlining drapping your shoulders because you didn't use the correct high temp glue:sad1:

Old rules apply - measure twice, three times or more if necessary and cut once!

I have ta say I like it... You should mask off the center part of the sunglasses holder, and shoot the outside edges of it though.

Looks great, I really love the dark colored headliner since its not something you usually see in XJs. I approve!

Yours looks great btw. I like the black as well. I was considering just painting mine flat black or with bedliner. With the amount of dirt and sand that is stuck to the factory headliner, I don't think I need to put cloth up there again.

I ran without a headliner in another XJ, it was way too noisy for me!

x2! I used a scrub brush to get the old foam off. I did it by myself, but it would been a whole lot easier with a friend.
