Need Your Feedback!! -Rear Bumper-

We'll see if the owner likes my setup next week after i get it back from powdercoat. If he likes it, we might go to production with it!!!

Nice. What size "D" rings are those? I went to get some for my rear bumper today and I couldn't find any larger that 1/2 inch.

The d-ring is a 7/8 set up. They are easy to find.

I went to Home Depot, Lowes and Tractor Supply. The largest I found was 1/2 inch.

I know for a fact tractor supply has them. Don't look in the chain or trailer/towing section. They will be in the tractor parts section near all the hitch pins and that sort of thing.

Really like the looks. Like how it wraps around the bottom corners to protect the sheetmetal. Only addition is maybe bracing that lower tube to the upper so it doesn't deflect/bend if it drops onto a rock real hard.

I just Finished this bumper last night and I want every ones feedback on it, wether its good or bad. Its not finished or Powdercoated yet, but it will be after I finish making a few changes (cutting out the ORF and just plating it with 10gage). Wanted something to match the front...what does everyone think about it?? Thanks!!!

Thanks everyone!!

Damn dude that shits diesel, i have a TNT rock runner front & i know their rear looks a lot like that

Gotta say that bumper looks nice. It will match the front really well. If you do a package deal on both, I can see you selling a lot of them.

Very nice bumper!!

You are in the same boat I am, I have had the ORF front bumper for a while, and just decided to build my own as well. You did the same coverage around the side of the rear as I am going to. Here are a few pics of mine that I started, 2 inch top and 1 1/2 bottom tube.

I have the two shackles to add to the rear to match the front as well. It will be the 3 piece design also.

Looks like some good craftsmanship. As for protecting the lights, the same rock that creases your gas tank door is going to take out the taillight, don't ask me how I know this one. :) How did you tie it into the frame? Did you go down the rail and use the stock mounting points for the hitch? Or did you just use the stock bumper mounts? If you're going to give a tug on it, it should be tied in to the bottom of the frame rail like a factory hitch is. A good tug with only the stock bumper mounts will rip the bumper right off the jeep.

CPOlish24: Sorry to high-jack your thread with my pics, and post. I received a no from ORF stating no rear bumper for the XJ's.

Here are some concerns:

(1) The year differences, on 97+, the body lines are not straight across like the older XJ's, meaning the gap will be wider on the 97+ ones between the top of the tube and the bottom of the light. The rear hatch has about 1" to 1 1/2" added onto the bottom. So you could run the same bumpers on all models, but you will have a larger gap on the 97+, so a little eye sore.

(2) Is the same concern as the previous posters reply about the strength of the sides once it is bolted on, is it going to be strong enough to hold up against a rock when you slide your rear off last, or will it just bend up into the body? I was thinking of double tubes (sticking one inside the other, then trying to bend) for the bottom tube for added strength.

Making it strong enough without hacking up more of the rear to accomplish it with extra tubing coming out of the frame to strengthen the ends caps of the bumper.

Note: I used 1/4" thick steel and build new mounts to bolt into the factory location, and I am planning on still running my hitch.

I bobbed my rear quarters after smacking enough rocks with the lower panel. The 1/4" endcaps on my JCR are bent in also. The factory mounts aren't that strong, they were meant to hold a stamped steel bumper and look pretty. Any rear bumper that is meant to have D rings and be used for recovery needs to tie in along the framerail where the factory hitch ties in.
I'd just sandwitch the bumper connection between the hitch and the framerail.

Its all new center section with modified ORfab JK corners. All 1/4" on the bumper brackes which are ancore to the factory hitch mounts for added mounting points. I just cut the ORfab plates out and I'm plating it with 10g. I think it gives it a cleaner look. I don't know if ORFab is going to produce it(I did it off the clock), I just wanted to make a bumper that matched my front! Finally I have something!! I should have pics of the final setup next week after I get it burned and Powdercoated.

The bumper is ancored to the factory hitch mounts so it will be strong enough to tow (my quad trailer) and recover with the d-rings. The corners are made out of .250 DOM, I didn't skimp on that, and they are all mounted on 1/4" Plates. The ORF customer service knows about my bumper because the pics of it are on the server, but they know they can't say that we are going to produce it because i only made 1 for my self after hours. I have 2 96' XJ and 1 97' xj so I will be able to make the modefications to fit 84-01. Like i said before, it will be up to ORF pres. if he wants to go to production with it. the more people that call in and say that they want one, the more likely they are to have me make a final version!!

The 97' thats in quadratec'c cat. is mine to:

I will test it on the 97' too!

Call in my ass, show him this thread. If it is as competitively priced as the front was, I will want one. X eleventy billion if you can come up with a solid spare mount for it.

I finally got it back from powdercoating last week and got it on this weekend!! Along with my Front Hoop!! Sorry it took so long to post Pic's of it!!
