Need to vent - service gone bad

I brought my XJ in to the dealer for a steering box problem and got it back today - about two weeks later. There was lots of confusion and lost paperwork. On the drive home, I noticed it ran a little hot. I get home and pop the hood - the electric fan is gone! I don't like other people working on my cars and only bring them to a shop when I have no time or not enough resources. I called them tonight and will speak to the service manager tomorrow, but I've lost all faith in the mechanics there. The top of the belt driven fan's shroud is broken off and the electric fan is gone! Did they think I wouldn't notice that?!

There used to be a Jeep dealer down the road from me and their service was the best. There was one mechanic there, Ivan, who knew XJs and really took pride in his work. I'm looking for that kind service again, but I'm having a hard time finding it.

and the lesson learned?

always inspect before it leaves the premise. I too learned the hard way.

I have a long list of "service gone bad". One of the worst was I sent the the 96 in for a rebuilt tranny. They sent it back with the new tranny in, four quarts low on fluid. I had them put in a new window motor while it was there, I'm still trying to find the ground they screwed up. They charged me for a new front pinion seal, the old one is still in there.

I was sick at the time and the wife went to pick the XJ up. I'm glad I got up out of bed, sick as a dog and checked the fluid.

You'd think I'd eventually get lucky and have the shop do some satisfactory work. The vast majority of the time I have to redo whatever they did and pay for the privilege of fixing their screw ups.
