Need Air Compressor Advice/Opinion

My 14 year old air compressor crapped the bed this afternoon. So now I'm in the market for a new one and wanted to know what you use or recommend.

I am replacing a 5hp, 20 gallon Campbell Hausfeld. I'd like to replace it with the same or better.

Thanks!

Stay far away from those compressors that use a maintenance-free, oil-free pump/compressor. Those things are STUPID noisy. (the 2nd one Dirty posted...... NO BUENO!)

Look for the commercial grade compressors (like the first one Dirty posted.....) - single-stage oil lube pump with cast iron cylinders kind. Something belt driven with a separate electric motor. 220v is a good thing. 30 gallon or better, upright tank so it takes up less floor space.

I'm not sure what broke, but it is not compressing air. It blew off the air filter and is pushing air out there's, kinda like it is running backwards.:dunno: It definitely has a different sound to it now. I looked into repairing it but I know the inside of the tank is rusted and pieces are rattling around on the inside, so I figured it would be better to replace.

I have a 40 gallon compressor I got from Lowes, it works pretty well. It'll keep up with a die-grinder or my my bender but it runs the near continuosly with them. My firend has the exact same size/spec as mine but its from Home Depot and it seems to do a better, runs quieter too.

sounds like the compressor is over pressuring , the pressure switch may be the problem ,get one and try it before you spend the money on a new one , Mabe it will last till little Dirty can afford to buy you one

Sounds like the intake valve (reed) went to lunch and won't be coming back.
