The XJ seems to be notorious for their A/C problems, and mine is currently giving me a headache. Here is the run down:

* 2.0 yrs ago: replaced evaporator - evacuated and recharged
* August '07: replaced compressor & clutch, accumulator/drier, expansion valve/orifice tube - evacuated and recharged
* Currently: I was told I need to replace the evaporator again

Need a 2nd opinion

I don't know how an evaporator coil could go bad in 2 years?

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Anyone happen to know of a mechanic in the Richmond, VA vicinity who is either familiar with the Jeep or is good with troubleshooting A/C problems?
Any help will be much appreciated.

You didn't happen to use another Chrysler/jeep evaporator did you ? I would take it back to the shop you had the problem with and see what they will do about it. Did they use a new one or one from a junkyard or worse yet one from a dealer....

i concur...

Until I got a jeep I NEVER had an evaporator fail, compressors yes, condensors yes but NEVER and evaporator and I've owned quite a few cars and trucks. Whoever supplied those evaps to jeep must have been a relative of whoever did the purchasing for Jeep. Not just XJ's either, it's common on ZJ's, WJ's and TJ's too.
