Short version, cuz you're all tired of my long winded B.S laden posts anywayz.....
Seems that the counterweights near the #5 connecting rod have been getting upclose and personal with the girdle. When I initially built the motor I learned that there was an interference issue with the connecting rod caps/bolts and spaced the girdle away from the main bearing caps using 2 washers. It appears that the girdle warped just enough to allow for this....
A few gentle taps with a BFH and a 3rd washer on all the studs and no more knock!
Expensive lesson learned.
Yes you can all point, giggle, and even call me names....definetly earned it.
expensive or not, you finally found your gremlin, so congrats! and at least you didn't do something silly like leave a tool inside or something, then we could really razz ya!!:scared:
hey frank, since were talking girdles here, what do you torque the girdle nuts to when reinstalling it? I just winged it last time, i'm curious is there's a spec for it?
also: i still haven't found that ticking/knocking noise the follows with road speed. I'm just going to run it till it breaks so I know what to fix finally. If anyone wants to go for a ride and take a shot at troubleshooting a noise on my jeep let me know, i'm out of ideas.
