Hi! I'm Brad, and I'm running for Midwest Chapter Treasurer.

I feel privileged to have been nominated for the position of Treasurer. I have been wanting to become more involved with the chapter, and I think this will be a great way to do that. This club has made me feel more than welcome, and quite simply is one of the best organizations I have been involved with.

I have been living and working as a software developer in Lafayette, Indiana for the past four years. Fortunately, this puts me close to our official events, such as Winterfest and the semi-annual trail cleanup at Redbird SRA. Both of these are on my "must-do" list every year, and I have been attending them since I became a member of NAXJA two years ago.

While I do not have much formal financial education or background, the Treasurer position is one which I would take very seriously. Winterfest is growing each year, and we continue to support local parks and trails each year. These activities are supported by our generous group of members, and I appreciate the opportunity to help use the chapter's funds wisely. Although I would have a lot to learn, I think I would work very well with our currently-elected officials.

In my opinion, there is not a bad candidate for any of the elected positions this year.

I would be happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability.

do you know how to cook a turkey in a campground?

can you count high enough to know how many turkeys we will need this winterfest?

Yes, my friend Neal and I are traditionally (2 years running) responsible for deep-fried turkeys at Winterfest (and some other events).

I can count high enough to know that however many we cook, it will still disappear within minutes!

Good Luck Dude, You got some tough competition.

If elected will you buy an XJ again? :D

If elected will you buy an XJ again? :D

Regardless of whether I am elected or not, I will buy an XJ again. I know some people may be put off by me running for an elected office in an XJ club when I currently own a ZJ. I decided to try something different for a while.

But regardless of vehicle choice, NAXJA is still the best organization I've been a part of, and my allegiance is to the club itself and its members.

I was going to play devils advocate and asked about the ZJ...

Do you do well with your checkbook at home?

Have you ever been in charge of another company/institution/entity's money?

The national BOD provides a monthly statement to the members of the cash on hand that the club has, is this something that you would consider for the MWC?

I have no problems managing my money on a month-by-month basis. I think as Treasurer I would have the benefit of oversight from the other elected officials. I would expect to be more careful with someone else's money than my own.

Have you ever been in charge of another company/institution/entity's money?

Excellent question. I have not previously acted as Treasurer for an organization. I realize that is not ideal, but I am being up-front when I say I have a lot to learn if I am elected.

I think that National sets a good example by doing this; it is the members' contributions that support the club and chapter, and they deserve to know the status of our funds. Especially in a not-for-profit organization I think there should be as much transparency as possible.

Only if the chapter pays for it.

I'm feeding off the other thread, but this is a question that I meant to ask...

Aside from the monthly financial statment of the chapter, what about a monthly statement of what has been discussed by the bod?

like this from the national BOD

mac 'make it members only of course' gyvr

I think it would be a good idea, and it would keep all of our members aware of what's going on behind the scenes. I think a report like that could be put together fairly easy. We should have monthly financial information anyway, and beyond that it would be a breakdown of membership changes affecting the MWC as well as any other chapter decisions that are "officially" endorsed by the chapter. It may just be a matter of combining the financial report with some membership numbers from National and scanning the forum for any "hot topics" from that month. This would be something that needs input from all of the elected MWC officials and acts as a monthly snapshot of how the chapter is doing.

I think it would help the busier members who can't be on here every day (it happens to all of us at some point) keep track of what's going on.

quotes in red = VERY important questions, which if you answer YES to the last question you will get my vote. :D

quotes in black = questions that you havn't answered.

...also, how old are you? not that age has any influence on how i vote, just asking.

Age is a relevant question, and I understand that. I am 25.

Two of those other questions I answered in-line when I quoted's Mac's post.

As far as the important question:
"will you provide everyone with a free turkey at winterfest?"
No, I don't think I can swing a $10 turkey for each of the 100 people at WF. We can compromise though. I think if you change it to:
"will you provide everyone with free turkey at winterfest?"
then I can say yes. Maybe not a whole turkey for each person, but I can at least guarantee some for everyone. I think we did 3 last year and I didn't hear many complaints.

I tried to address the ZJ question early, as I knew that would come up. I know a lot of people here have had their Jeeps for a long time. I like branching out and trying new things. When my last XJ started falling apart, I decided I wanted to try something different. However, I had already met a lot of great people in the chapter, people that I wanted to continue wheeling with, and just as importantly, sitting around the campfire with. So I decided that I would stay involved with the club and the chapter, regardless of what I drive. I know this is an XJ-oriented club, but I think a lot of people will agree that it is a lot more than that - events like Pig Gig, Brewfest, and others go to show that we get along and have a great time as a group, regardless of XJs, other Jeeps, beer, pork, nacho cheese, or anything else.

The red Q's were just to give u a hard time. I don't care if you drive a Suzuki.

The black Q's still haven't been answered.

Do you mean these two?

"Do you do well with your checkbook at home?

Have you ever been in charge of another company/institution/entity's money?"

See post #7, right after the one where Mac asked those. Sorry, I should have quoted it more conventionally instead of replying in-line.
