Looking around December... was wondering who might live nearby who likes to wheel and such? Places to get parts there for my rigs... do they have places like Pic n Pull? Any vehicle regulations on lift height and such that i will have to deal with?

Thanks :).

Hey thanks :).

No lift laws in KS. Only thing that might pertain is a headlight height limitation of 52 inches, I believe (it has been a while since I check it).

I will second 4x4land as a stand up shop. I had a very pleasant experience with them when getting greared. 4x4rockshop recently relocated to Paola, KS. They were great when located in AL, so I would not expect anything less.

The Tuttle Creek ORV park (Randolph, KS) and KS Rocks (Ft. Scott, KS) are the two parks around these parts.

I have been in central KS for ever and am now in Overland Park (near KC).

I just moved to Olathe from Wyoming so its cool to see fellow wheelers close by

I am in olathe also! THere are a few of us hidden around here.

Do you know any cool places near by? I am not from the city so this place drives me insane. Is there any public land in this county with some trails or dirt roads? Here soon we will be getting rain and I want to know where to find some mud and not get arrested :-) I know there is kansasrocks and tuttle creek but i want some place closer.

ksrocks and tuttle are the closest legal places to wheel. As far as mud there are many tavel at your own risk roads around, but don't get caught on them during a rain storm or the day after. Cause that is against the law in ks. But the roads stay wet for a long time. but those are normally out in the middle or now where and easy to get stuck on. And the farmer near by probably wont help since they don't like people tearing up the roads. Oh and don't call me cause I hate the mud!!!!!!

If you want mud, and in all ways of staying legal, check out http://www.thefarmatadair.com/

this place is a mud haven year round. It is 100% legal and does not end up pissing off farmers by tearing up their access roads..and when people get stuck on my roads around our farms for muddin' I have had a tendency to rip their bumpers off when "trying" to get them out. :D

(yes, I am a farmer! :farmer: )

as noted in your post, you are looking for legal places to mud and that is cool. We here at NAXJA do not in any way condone illegal wheeling or destructive wheeling on county or public roads.

Well i like rocks to, but my jeep is not ready for it yet. But soon!!

Thanks for the replies! :). Yeah that mud place is cool idea. I cant wait to get there and try out some of that stuff and meet some of you in rl :).

No it was my daily up until a few months ago. Drove it to laycgne, ks daily but gas was breaking us so I bought a neon to putt around with. In the last few months of sitting in the driveway it has desided it doesn't want to start. Hopefully after haunted house season is over I can get some time to get it running. I'm an employee of 4 different company's right now and too busy to even look at the xj right now.

I know you are. The jeep is in the driveway if you wanna come over and get it running for me. Just ignore the mastiff trying to sniff you to death.

I'm kinda close (Abilene is just a quick trip down I-70) and try to go off-roading at Tuttle Creek ORV at least a few times a year. Gimme a holler if you need someone to go with next time! :)

I live in Lawrence just a little bit down I70. Not much in the way of public wheeling just minimum maintainance roads for mud and Manhattan ORV park and Fort Scott if you feel like driving.

I am running 33s cut fenders...but have tj flares 3 1/2 lift, welded front limited slip dana 44 rear and removeable doors. Any of these going to cause mee issue registering/daily driving it in kansas...no rear swaybar etc...

Daily Driving... maybe, just due to road manners

If you are registered out of state, just make sure the VIN on the dash/door matches the title and you are golden for registration. That is the first and last time anybody will ever 'inspect' your rig.

KS really doesn't give a rip what you do to the rig. However, headlights should be no higher than 54" (no lower than 24"), and the taillamps can't reach higher than 72" (or below 15"). Reflectors must be present front and rear (out back they can be incorporated into the light or stand alone) and can't be higher than 60" or lower than 15".

KS does have a mirror law; one on the outside and one in the center. I have run long distances with no outside mirrors and never been stopped. I also have a motorcycle mirror I can stick on the driver side (I actually like to use it). Granted this is on my TJ.
