Hey guys,

Does anyone on these boards mountain bike? A buddy of mine that i work with at the bar mountain bikes alot and back in maryland i used to as well. As of late ive been getting in to it again. I have a Giant Warp DS2 full suspension with a marzochi (not spelled right) with front disc brakes. BUt i was wondering first off, where do you mountain bike and what kinda bike do you have?

So far ive been to Brown County and Fort Duffield down in West Point, KY.

Used to MTB every day before and after class in HS at Town Run Trail Park in Indy. Bought a full suspension Schwinn (don't laugh) on clearance at Walmart for $100 and rode the crap out of it. Still have it, but haven't really ridden for years.

Worked 4 years (sales, manager, head mechanic) at a bike shop in college and road MTB probably 4 days a week. Towards the end got more into road bikes just because I could walk out the front door and ride. Plus it didnt punish my body like MTB. Then I graduated, got a real job, stopped riding, and got fat. Now 5 years later I'm back on the bike and trying to return to glory. LOL

Both of my bikes are oldies but goodies: '99 Schwinn Homegrown and a mid 80's Schwinn Paramount with mostly newer parts.

I used to ride both street and dirt (hard to believe, I know). Had a Cannondale R400 and R600 for street (me and wifey) and I also had a GT Ricochet Mountail bike with front suspension which was back in the day Rock Shox. We have had a few other MTB's along the way, I had a Specialized Stumpjumper and Hardrock, but they were both sold at a garage sale...kind of wish I still had them....

I ride some, I work at a local shop as a mechanic. Mostly I ride sweetwoods forest preserve in glenwood IL, but I also ride imagination glen in portage, bluhm county park in westville IN, and Winona near warsaw. I have a 2007 Trek Fuel EX 6 with XO and some other stuff on it.

I am calling B.S. on this. The only way you would get on a bike is if you hade a slab of cooked bacon dripping cheese from it tied in front of you

well, now a days that is true, but believe it or not, in my pre college years I actually cycled daily and not for lack of owning a vehicle either :D Before I moved back to Missouri after college the wifey and I got back into cycling in Kansas b/c it was flat and there was nothing else to do :dunno:

I used to go to the trials right off 465 by Castleton. Forget what they are called but they are lots of fun.
I have a Giant something, now its serving duty as a college bike.

I ride a Specialized Hard Rock, been absent from the MTB scene for about 11 yrs now.. got fat. Used to ride a Gary Fisher RS-1 in high school. loved that bike! In due time i will be back in shape. I just bought the specialized 3 weeks ago. Love it!

i have a specialized P.2 that i have beaten on some trails, but now ive gotten more into urban riding (dropping stairs, finding stuff to mess around on) but im thinking about building a DH bike when the funds accumulate.

i am looking to upgrade my full suspension giant warp ds2 to a full disc brake setup, then possibly go clipless, and then hopefully upgrade the rear "suspension" to a better spring setup. but i gotta get the jeep running first

You made the trek down to Fort Duffield? Cool, how was it? Haven't been there yet. I've had my bike for about 7 years, but just starting hitting the trails a couple months ago. It's a basic Diamondback hardtail, but works fine for now. Done all of my riding so far at Waverly Park in Louisville, once or twice a week. I hear that it's tougher than Fort Duffield. Waverly is fairly technical with some tough hills (one is a killer). I love it out there, but it's easy to get lost at first. If you come back down to KY, let me know.

Fort Duffield was a blast. What i like best was that there weren't hardly any people out there. My bike was acting up (front chain gears were bent) so we didnt make it fully up the red trail. But at the top of the Fort you can take a grand slalom trail (a lot of fun, more technical then fast) some of the corners can get kinda hairy, but its alot of fun.

My favorite trail that we hit was the downhill trail, very fast, yet technical at parts. Some fairly large "log stacks" and some very big but smooth jumps. By the end of our run, we would just walk the bikes up to the top of the fort via the paved road and pick which trail we wanted to run back down.

I was supposed to go again yesterday, but the XJ had a broken camshaft sensor, so thats getting taken care of today thankfully.

But next time i go i will definetly get some pictures and videos of the trails.

There's a number of trails local to me. Couple of wildlife areas, then the Tech Trails up north.

The bike is a '07 Gary Fisher Tassajara that I modded with: Hayes 9's Hydro Disks, Manitou Minute Air Fork, Easton Handlebar, Crank Bros Candy Clipless Pedals, Mavic Rims w/ Shimano XT hubs, Bontrager Jones XR tires, and a racing saddle.

I don't like the pedal bob that is common in full suspension bikes.

I've got a specialized hardrock the basically just gets my fat ass to and from classes. It is in some desperate need of TLC too doesn't want to shift right anymore.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to hit Ft Duffield then. Waverly has what I call the downhill slalom section that I love to do a couple times in a row. You can walk or ride back up the road to do it again. I hope to get out several more times before it starts getting too cold. Let me know if you want a tour guide at either place. My buddy at work is a veteran of the local trails.

My buddy and i are going to hit Ft. Duffield tomorrow around 12:00 if you are out that way at all. Le me know if you are available
