Most Scenic in So Cal

I'd love to put a vote in for Death Valley. Exploring the old ghost towns and mine shafts is so fun to me. Lots of history up there. I'd be game! Actually, I will probably be planning a trip there in June or July anyway. These are from my old Montero club, I think it was Thanksgiving 2004. The trails are fun, but pretty mild at the same time. We camped in Ballarat. There are also two public-use cabins that are free and pretty well-equipped (fridge, stove, etc). The colors at sunset and sunrise were AMAZING...

Well, I've only gone in the fall. Summer weather often exceeds 115 there...so think "Vegas, baby!" but without the casinos. But hey...it's a dry heat! :)

The average temperature in Death Valley from June-August, averaged over a 29 year period from 1941 to 1970, is 92.8 deg.

I just called the hotline, the rincon is still closed along with azusa canyon. I will call tuesday, and find out when there suppose to open the rincon back up, I have been wanting to run it for quite some time now. A twilight would porbably be pretty amazing. If you guys are interested, the number for the hotline to find out about rincon, and azusa canyon is 626 335 1251 after it picks up push number to for rincon and auzsa openings. Ill call and post up tomaro evening

Let's get a cool one figured out, load up the Ice chest, some lunch and go cruising. Doing the trail maintenance made me want to drive down some cool trail for awhile, just taking in some sight seeing, and fun driving.

Depending on the date and if the trail you guys pick is doable with a stock XJ, I might be in as well.

I'm down. Another scenic trail is Black Mountain Road up Highway 243 near Idylwild. If you dont know where it is I'd be happy to show you.

I'll go pretty much anywhere...SoCal Fest made the exploration-bug bite me in the arse.

I would prefer the freeway driving to be under a tank of fuel, though. In my POS, that's ~225 miles/tank.

I want to take a really cool trail ride in the Jeep, not hard core, more of just trail driving on a long scenic trail.

Looks like you created some interest in that kind of trail ride. Are you going to organize a run for us?

I definitely want to do a run at the end of may or beginning of June. I have zero plans other than my sons High School grad. I would like to do a run that would be fun to drive, and that would be fairly long, take most of the day. After doing the trail maint run, I just though about how long its been since I just enjoyed going exploring, Packing a lunch, ice chest and drove.
Lets figure out something really cool and go!

I'd be interested in joining in too if it's ok and the timing works out. Mostly stock 97 XJ and the wifes mostly stock 04 TJ. My son's getting married the last weekend of May, but early June is good for us.

Ted, i gotta hand it to you, you've taken ALOT of shit over the last couple months and stuck with it. bypass or not i'll wheel with ya anytime :guitar:

I would do the split mountain trail to fish creek to sandstone canyon by octillo wells off 78, sandstone canyon is crazy and easy until you reach this 2 ft wall. The other trail would be Canyon sin nombre to Tapiado cutoff and back by the mud caves a big loop. Along canyon sin nombre is Diablo drop off, 2 steep sections to go down and the short trail over to split mountain has some pretty good size rocks. Anza borrego is great the last time we went we did pinyon trail to which has the Squeeze and heart attack hill to fish creek to cutoff to diablo drop off and up diablo drop off to canyon sin nombre to S2 and home. The last trip is crazy and very hard definately not stock equipment.

 its all good, a little shit talkin never hurt anyone. Most of the :NAXJA: people kick ass, besides, the guys that are raggin me I know for the most part off the boards. Grimm I can't wait for azusa to open back up  i need some mud( :callme:: hello ranger station, is the canyon open yet. no :banghead:) jesus enough already drain the DAMN CANYON.!!!!
