No worries... start worrying if it won't shift quite right, or runs funny, or makes funny noises.

Mine have 150 something, 146 something, and 228 something... I wouldn't hesitate to drive any of them across the country on a moment's notice. I'd toss the usual spare parts in the back and a bag of tools, but just stuff like alternator/starter/sensors/bolt on crap.

These 4.0s will go to 3-400k+ if you take care of em right (like you would any other engine).

Somewhere there's a list called the "High Mileage Club" or something like that with various super-high mileage XJs, I'd find it but I'm feeling a little lazy and don't want to search. Google it or something, its kinda fun to look at.

Depends on if you do it yourself or not... 200 bucks will get me what I need to swap a jy engine in around here though

If you're gonna bother rebuilding it, may as well stroke it.
If you don't stroke it there's no point... you can pick up a drop-in replacement for under $150 around here, which depending on how extensive your rebuild is, is probably a cheaper/easier option.

Nice upside down grille (=
My 89 XJ has about 205k and still kickin. Its got the usual small leaks but runs/drives really good.
If you do rebuild, at least throw in a 4.2L crank/rods

My 99 has >254K miles, and the 95, now retired for non-mechanical reasons, has ~263. In both cases, the basic mechanical systems are fine and could probably continue just about forever. Our enemy here is rust. The 95, while still theoretically serviceable, is too far gone to be worth the work, and the 99 is well on its way, though I am hoping for a couple more years.

I had a guy come into Oreilly's yesterday, (my work), he had 350,000 miles on his 96 xj, with nothing more than tune up parts, a transmission seal, and basic maintenance.

Mine has 152K, and It's reliable enough to drive across the country.

Two years ago I drove my '92 from NJ to Utah for a week of wheeling, and drove it home again. It had 225,000 on the clock when I left, and 230,000 when I got home.

Still solid at nearly 239,000.

95 with 209k I bought it in June of 09 with 173k and put 36,000 miles on it in 1 year..In that time a starter died, headlight switch broke, the gasket for the waterpump sprung a leak, and the coolant temperature sensor died..The exhaust fell off on the highway too but i could have prevented that..
