Midwest Fishing!

So what is recommended for <$50 on an ultra-light? I saw a few posts back that Ugly Sticks aren't preferred. I love my 7 footer for catfish. I considered buying their 5' UL for around $40. Is there something that really is better for around my budget?

walmart has a couple rods around the $30 price point. but those things get abused on the racks, so be sure to take a good look at the guides. i picked up an abu garcia cardinal series rod.

Yeah, I was in Walmart the other day checking them out. Between the lack of selection and seeing at least 2 with the last eye knocked off, I decided I would check out Dick's and Gander Mtn before I buy. Though Dick's is surrounded by construction and not too appealing right now...

Walmart, Gander Mtn., Fleet Farm.

Walmart had a 5' ultra light Ugly Stick for ~$36. Gander Mtn. had a pink accented version of the same Ugly Stick for $40 (and no other ultra lights, wtf?). Fleet Farm had a slew of ultralights. Picked the Ugly Stick for $30.

Look, just cause your wives are only 5 feet tall, you shouldn't call them ugly sticks.

J/K I know nothing about fishing.

I think it has been well established that the MWC has better looking women than men.

i beat someone with an ugly stick once... true story
