months back there was a huge stir saying that McCaslin Mtn in Wisconsin was going to get shut down for good. It turned out that it was just rumors and that the DNR was just doing some work back in the area. Now as today, supposedly per the WI DNR and one source says that the mountain is closed for good. Not sure if anyone else heard anything and if so please chime in. Once I get more info, I will be sure to add it hear to let everyone know.

The mountain is closed for good. Talked with the owners to confirm. The dnr took a look at the mountain and didn't like what they seen. Too many things need to be repaired and once repaired the Smiths won't reopen as they are worried it will happen again. Sad to see some more wheeling land lost due to some stupid wheelers out there who just don't care about other peoples lands and what they do to them. Thanks guys!!!!! Damn am I pissed!!! What a way to start of this rainy Sunday morning.

The one time I went there, there was a Burb that was about 20 foot off the trail tearing the crap out of the hill trying to get up, cause he didn't want to wait for the people on the trail.

Those people are the reason it is closed for good. I can't wait to see them on the trails and kick them in their junk. Cause that is what they just did to me when telling me the mountain was closed. No, I am not mad at all.:flamemad:

Wow, that sucks. Sounds like a lot of the people at Haspin Acres. I refuse to go there because the lack of rules and all the damn mud!

Well this just kicks us when we're already down... Wisconsin has barely any trails as is and now the 'rednecks' of the off-roading world ruin the Mt. for good.... All the more reason for me to get to Northwoods Overland before it happens there too...

Fiksed! :D

why don't you guys go speak to the owners personally and see if you can even arrange private naxja trail rides even? i mean if it was a few dumb-asses that ruined it for everybody they should be able to take into consideration a chosen few who are still responsible and respectful enough to utilize the land. no?

I spoke with them this morning. I don't think anything like that will happen anytime soon. We will be talking with the Smiths again soon and hopefully something good will come of it. The DNR has a big part in this too, so we have to make them happy also. Than the final desicion is up to the Smiths.

There is more to this issue than disturbed land. There is also an issue of ownership. The land is not owned by the Smith's (never was), so they actually have no say on whether it is open or closed. The Estate of the fellow who was logging the remaining 750 acres or so of the mountain have say so.

I have been wheeling there since 98' and I have enjoyed every trip. I will miss it, and the people. The Smith's are good folks, and many a rig has been tacked back together with Paul's welder :D
