Mastershield Paint Sealant. What is it?

My father passed away last year and I recently brought back a lot of stuff from his house.

In one of his tool cases I found several packages of paint sealant sponges.
I've never seen one of these before, so before I try to use it I wanted to ask if anyone knows about them.

Is this a do it yourself clear coat of some sort, or just a wax?
Should I wax the car first before putting this on, or just wash it?

It says that it's Part No. 82300507

well i checked with our parts dept and the only thing i found is that it's no longer available. there was no descrption at all.

it was available up to 2000. the parts guy said he thought is was like a really good wax. but he didn't know for sure.

Paint sealent is a little stronger than wax, It helps protect the paint from water spotting and light scratches. Most paint sealent lasts at least a year.(unless you go wheeling )

Its just another one of those things that dealers sell to make more money from you.

So would you recommend using this instead of wax, or in addition to it?

There used to be a white powder they sold in the '70's That would coat your car in a hard shell when pressure was applied by rubbing it into the paint. This looks like the same kinda stuff

It is suppose to be better than wax, so i would use the sealant. If you do there is no need for the wax. It is becoming more common here in our area, so after we repair a car we have to reapply it to the cars that had it, but we have to wait at least a month to do so because it can cause problems with new paint(seals it to well and dosn't let paint release its solvents).
