MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR

SoCal is the greatest place on the planet! I have spent 10+ years in the Corps out west. I am from PA and fell in love with Cali. Once my time is up on I&I Duty I will be headed back out that way. To retire!

I am a strange beast and I LOVE 29 Palms. I can honestly say that the SoCal Chapter is one of the best on NAXJA. Once you get ready to move let, the SoCal boys know what you need and they will be there to help in any way they can.

Just like any other move its going to be what you make of it.

You will absolutely fall in love with the wheeling out there. As far as the people go I found everyone to be super friendly in SD, but I live in the DC area now. The SoCal Chapter will treat you right. Also look up SD4 Wheelers, they meet monthly at the Balboa park auto museum. Between NAXJA and SD4W you will have an endless supply of great people and fantastic wheeling which is ALL FREE. No more pay to play.

now that would be the only up side to me going there. me my wife and my son all like wheeling si it would prolly be our only escape really

Yeah, but isn't CA going to slide off into the Pacific?

You are incorrect. The fault in Cali is a slip/strike fault. What this means is part of California could become an island.

I've lived in California for about 10 years, mostly in the central valley (Turlock/Hughson). It has it quirks like every place does but also has it's benefits too. No humidity! Rust free vehicles! Lots of wheeling!

I can assure you that if you PCS to your new duty station with your messed up attitude you will be miserable. If you like Lejeune then you will be fine. It is the same thing just on a different coast. You will not be able to swing a 3 foot stick and not hit 30 Jar heads. That is why I prefer 29 Palms. I get all the bennies of SoCal living (a bit hotter) but none of the drama that comes from the big bases. Where a handful of knuckle heads mess it up for everyone.

Take it in stride. It is only a 3 year ordeal. It is not as bad as you think it will be.

Here is some helpful advice. Make sure your vehicles are in tip top running condition. They will make you smog them to get your base decal. It does not matter if they have out of state plates or not. Get them legal too. A lack of flares, mudflaps, and tinted windows WILL get you pulled over. There are the ones who say it is not required but, I had to get flares, flaps, and peel my tint after a run in with the law in San Marcos.

Read up on the benifits and swing by the SoCal Chapter and introduce yourself. You will be surprised on just how many different things California has to offer.

Trust me, I know all about faults (being a geologist and all). I was merely playing off teh common misconception that CA is in danger of falling into the ocean.

I was just checking to see how good you were.

well i dont like Lejeune lol im at Cherry Point. i dont mind the bases big or small. i lived on Futenma on okinawa for 2 yrs and its only 6 miles around. its the people who live in cali that urk me. everytime iv been to cali (socal) its been a worse and worse experence. maybe its just me i dunno but my wife is the same way.

my jeeps are both from florida and both pass emissions. what is smog'ing them? neither ever had smog pumps or anything like that.

noted. my rigs all good then

Take the kids to the Mud Caves in De Anza Borreogo Desert State Park. Go explore Elliot Mine just south of the 8 just before it drops down into the desert. Hunt for 6 million year old fossil oyster shells the size of dinner plates down in the Yuha basin. Camp and hike all over the desert just east of San Diego. The kids will love the fossils, rocks and crystals. Track all sorts of animals and show them what the milky way really looks like.

Dont forget about Balboa Park, the Zoo, Sea World and Lego land.

You will have a great time unless you try real hard not too.

Wow, how you get to not go where they want you to? Congrats. Hope it doesn't deep 6 your carrer.

nope i found a hole and exploited it.

they didnt cut me orders. they didnt know we are married. so they screwed up and being that i called em out on it i was in the right.

all i asked for was the orders to go away and it was a done deal.

Nice.

I don't see how this is possible. IPAC will know that you are married because of the DEERs system. With your wife being deployed she had to make changes to her RED, POA, and will.

Sounds to me like you took the easy way out of doing what "WE" as Marines do. The needs of the Corps will always come before the individual Marine.

I have never respected any Marine who finds a way to get out of orders. I have deployed 10 times in 16 years and moved across country 6 times. It is my job and I knew that I would be required to uproot my family when ever Uncle Sam tells me too.

Hope you feel good inside.

Gunny
