I am trying to find a cherokee here in Oregon/Washington and i cant find a single one that is a manual. Im looking for a 91 to about 95 and not looking to spend more then $2000. Are these a rare find or something? I've looked everywhere? any suggestions.

Out of the five RENIX rigs I've had (1987-1990,) two of them have been manuals, and people in general seem to be getting away from the whole idea of a manual transmission (pity...)

However, let me offer up the following:

1) It's probably more work than it's worth to convert from an auto to a manual - especially on anything 1991-up (OBD gets cranky when it doesn't get AT signals that it's looking for, so you have to swap engine controllers as well.)

2) Instead of Mod Tech, try posting up in either National Classifieds or your local Chapter Classifieds - since Mod Tech isn't the place for buying and selling (expect this thread to get nuked sooner or later for that reason - I just hope you see this first.)

3) If you're actively looking, you may want to post "WTB" (Wanted: To Buy) messages on the following boards:
www.cherokeeforum.com
www.cherokeetalk.com
www.jeepforum.com
www.pirate4x4.com (but Gawd help you if you put your message in the wrong place there! Those guys aren't anywhere near as nice as I am...)
and, of course, here. That will expand your chances. However, if you have the choice between posting in "National" boards and "Regional/Chapter/State" boards, don't post in National unless you're willing to travel to pick the thing up - it doesn't do you a whole lot of good to get a hit that's on the other coast...

yea i would have to agree with this. i've seen 3 in the past 2 weeks for sale. already lifted with manual tranny. in the northeast it's pretty much the exact opposite. you can't find any auto's. mine is, but i got lucky. all the other ones i've seen and even my first xj was standard.

Thats funny, cause I've only seen a handful of XJ's around that have been manuals. Almost every one I've seen has been an auto.

come to middle of the state CT where there's no cities or big town's. that's where you'll find em. one of my friends is actually selling his i think. 5 spd, 6" skyjacker w/ long arms, 36" tsl's. a lot of them aren't listed anywhere. you just gotta know the right people and where to look

I've been selling JEEPs since '95 and have only ever seen a handful. Looked for my '96 2dr 5spd for over 2 years

both my renix and ho are manuals. here in socal when i was looking to buy an ho, every single 4x4 i found for sale was an auto. i finally found my '96 2dr manual on craigslist after about 3 weeks of looking.

Ha I wasnt really looking for either I just wanted an XJ, and the second one I looked at was a 2door 5speed, the price and milage was good so I picked it up. one of my friends whos a mecanic has a 5peed as well. when I told him I had one too he almost fainted.

I guess I got lucky. although It is a pain in the rocks, but i figure once I get used to it it wont be so bad.

I stumbled upon mine by sheer fate. '93 4.0 5spd with 98,000 original one owner miles. Owned by a doctor, garaged, and serviced by local mechanics. I wasn't really looking, either, just reading through the classifieds (which I rarely do) and saw that it was only 5 miles away. It was love at first sight...

Only downside was that it spent a few years in Ohio before being moved to Colorado, so the road salt has left some corrosion on the underside but the body is fine.

My first post, btw
