I was looking through my messy garage today (just moved) and noticed that I have a lot of cases of oils and brake parts cleaner left. Was wondering if the non synthetic will go bad over time? I have 6 cases of 10w30, 4 cases of 10w40, 3 cases brake parts cleaner and a case of gear oil, really don't want it to go bad.

I have never heard of oil going bad, but ????

Also if the brake cleaner still has propellant, it ought to be fine as well.

Old brake fluid might be suspect, but even then if it was in a sealed jug it should be OK

I figured that if it was in a sealed bottle and kept from freezing it should be ok. Just don't want my freebies to go south.

It shouldn't go bad, unless contaminated by water and such. We used the old what, 55 gallon barrels on the farm and took around 5 years to go thru one or another of those, and never had a problem with any separation. They sat outside in all kinds of weather. As for the cleaning solvent type stuff, can't think there's be that much of a problem if it's sealed and avoided evaporation. Anything leaking, I'd ditch, just for the vapors, myself.

Ive used cased oil that has sat in my garage for 3 years , through sub zero weather and summer heat.... it was fine

Of course it was the Big Q and we all know what it stands for.....that Mobil 1 stuff , i wouldnt trust that to sit too long.

I have a case of Castrol Super 4 stroke 20/50 SE/SD, IN CANS. The cans still seem good, no soft spots. they are from around 81/82, leftovers from when I changed to synthetic in the bike. Still have a couple of those push in spigots for them too.
For you youngins thats how oil came at one time, had to shove in a spout, no resealable container bottles :D

I have 3 of those spouts and the old 3 gallon oil can with the long neck spout. Was the only way to get oil in the old Farmall.
