LS1 Swap

My 02 ss had the nice block and heads, no problems with the roller rockers for the time i had it though.
Well there is such thing as an ls6 block in f-bodies but the ls6 heads are a mere myth. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/gener...1163113-ummm-what-ls6-cam-2002-camaro-ss.html

I have not heard of too many instances but my buddy had a 00 and found a few needle bearings on his drain plug magnet. I believe that there is a TSB pertaining to this issue as well.

Also i beleave in 01 they took the EGR off of the LS1. For me thats just one less system i have to worry about.

Yeah that is the easiest way to tell if it is an ls6 intake or not, the ls6 intake lacks the egr port

Also some more food for thought while searching for donors

On with the Tech.

projectTK this is not the place for you to cry, whine, bitch, moan, or otherwise just bash the hell out of people and/or their projects. You are done "contributing" to this thread. Any further response will promptly land in the trash can. Thanks

Currently buying all the parts to do this swap.

I am looking for tips/advice if anyone has any.

Most of my parts are coming from Novak Adapters, they have GREAT parts directly made for this swap and awesome customer service.

Anyone else have any other part sources?

Sweet I'm subscribed :D
Good luck selarep

That is untrue, LS6 heads are a real thing. GM Casting number of 243, only came on Z06 and CTS-V. While the LS6 block happened to find its way into a few 2001-2002 Fbodys the LS6 intake was standard equipment from 2001-2002 after deletion of the EGR that was on 1998-2000 Camaro/TransAm. The best heads available on the Fbody's were casting number 241 available from late 2000 through 2002.

Mmmmkay, I think you may have misunderstood what I was saying. I purely meant that no F body came with the 243 (ls6) heads. I was not saying the heads do not exist.

Interesting discussion. I am thinking about the same swap. Let me know what difficulties you run into. Is there enough room in the tunnel to run the 4l60E?

Hmm....

OK, I am thinking about this swap too mainly for the fuel mileage increase. I am up in the air between this and stroked 4.0l. I only get somewhere around 15 mpg with my current mods on a 200K 4.0l. Will this get worse when I stroke the engine and add the 23lb injectors? Can I swap in the LS1 or an LS3 and get 20 mpg? Let me know if I am wrong here.

The owner is a NAXJA Member, 96Classic. His rig is featured in this months 4WOR as a UA participant. See page 34 of the mag.

I checked it out at wally world yesterday. Apparently he got a little excited when they called him! He also ran the whole thing without breaking the turdy!

I don't know what sort of gas mileage you'll get with the LS1 but I typically get 19-23mpg from my 4.6 stroker, which is slightly better than what I was getting from my old 4.0. I've gotten as much as 26mpg on one occasion.
