Currently buying all the parts to do this swap.

I am looking for tips/advice if anyone has any.

Most of my parts are coming from Novak Adapters, they have GREAT parts directly made for this swap and awesome customer service.

Anyone else have any other part sources?

Here's the XJ it's going into:

Dude, I am looking into this for my street MJ in a year or two, waiting on 0-2 pay to get into it.

Are you planning on using the GM computer? If so, are you just going to use splices for all your gauges? And what did you use for the donor? I have had my eye out for a good deal on a wrecked firebird or camaro with no luck. Also, headers? I heard that there are some nice block hugger headers out there for the LS1 but I have not seen them available yet.

I am going to be sending the stock ECU back to Novak and having them flash it and pre-program it.

They will also be modding the wiring harness. I will be using a custom made gauge housing in the stock location for all the dash gauges.

As for the block hugger headers:

The donor at the moment will be a 98 LS1 from a Camaro. I will be adding Corvette trimings to it though, as well as some other stuff.

What transmission do you guys plan on running?

T56 or the 4L60E. If I can get a nice 700R4 that would be great.

Still looking for the donor motor/car at the moment.

Nice pic Seiler.

has to be a 4l60E/4l65E if you are running it on a LS1, the bellhousing is slightly different on LS motors than the one on a 700R4 which is for the old school Chevy motors. Plus they are both electronically controlled and plug into the factory wire harness. If you get a T56 make sure again its the version from the LS1, the bellhousing isn't the same and it cannot be swapped between the older and newer versions of the transmissions.

too early for this, I just noticed...

Where are you hosting pictures that I can see them on a DOD computer. I am sitting watch as Squadron Duty Officer right now.

what? what coilovers? the pics are off villagephotos.com

Ah, I see! I would like to have the corvette ones just for the reference.

Also a ton of good info on the LS1 swap forum about the 5.3 swap in that XJ.

You know i have been saving for either a diesel swap or a stroker and the more i look into this. The more i want to go this way. Lets Look at the number and compare a 99 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4 Door(thats what i got) to a 2004 Pontiac GTO LS1

Engine---------------- 4.0L I6----------------------5.7LV8
HP -------------------190hp@4600rpm -------------350@5200rpm
Torque ---------------225lb-ft@3000rpm -----------365@4000rpm
EPA City -------------16mpg -----------------------16mpg
EPA Highway ---------21mpg -----------------------21mpg
Gross weigh ----------3151 ------------------------3725

Now if this ls1 from a gto can get those MPGs from a 3700 pound vehicle then it could do the same if not way better than my inline 6. So imagine getting a engine that gets better fuel milage and makes more low end power and high end power. To me its just a win win situation. Im pretty much sold that my XJ is getting a LS1.

I also have a c4 vette. Its the same princable. My vette weigh like 3239 lbs and has a 5.7L LT1 300hp & 340 lb-ft. Its epa rated at 18/28. I know the vette has way better aerodynamics and a very very tall 6th gear. But allot of the epa rating has to do with a big powerful motor in a very light car. Like i said. Im definitly doing a LS1 swap

No 2004 still had the LS1. It was the only year of the GTO to have the LS1. The LS2 came out in 2005 till 2006 when the GTO was put to rest. Im going to look for any GTO motor. Ill be happy with either the LS1 or LS2

05 was the first year for the 6.0l ls2 in GTO's and Vette's.

Some late 04 goats have the 05-06 hoods but were still ls1 cars

edit: Damn beat me by mere seconds! :D
