Lost my head today at the dealer.(rant)

Was out looking thru the junk yards today for a speedometer cable but couldn't find one. So off to the dealership closest to my house. A well know dealership with lots all over Ohio in every make of vehicle.

Walked into the parts department and had to wait about 3 minutes for the counter guy, that seen me walk in since I had to walk in thru the garage bays, to get done BSing with the other guys. One of the other guys even said "you have a customer" but he just kept on talking. This is just the start.

He asked me what I needed and I said I was looking for a speedometer cable for my 1988 Cherokee. To my surprise and displeasure he snapped back in broken English, "my computer doesn't go back that far" I snapped back like him "you gotta be kidding? Aren't you a Jeep dealer? Why wouldn't you have the parts back that far? He replied "our system only goes back to 1990"

I then asked if he was on the Chrysler network. And his reply was "yes but they didn't have access to all parts since they discontinued making that model" I had to restrain myself as best I could then I just went off on the idiot and cursed him all the way out the garage doors.

I drove another 10 minutes to the other dealership and was able to find the part and asked them if every dealer has access to these parts and they said if they are a Jeep dealer they do.

Yeah I dunno about some of these dealerships. I had to argue with one close to here about what kind of tranny fluid I take. I was at the dealership picking up something else anyways and figured that I would get some tranny fluid since I was there and then the guy started giving me a hard time telling me that the newer 98+ cherokees should only use chrysler atf 3 because chrysler built them and I was like I am pretty sure that mine doesn't I have been using dextron for the past 2 years and it is still working great, maybe he knows something that I don't but anyways That's what is wrong with that place, and the only other Jeep dealership near me, well when I bought the Jeep, I watched one of the guys in the Garage tighten 2 lug nuts on a customers wrangler until the studs snapped off, which made me wonder so I checked out mine shortly aftter but, all was well. So needless to say I still need my air bag recall fixed but don't really have a good feeling about any of the jeep dealerships around here.

My local Jeep dealer still has AMC signs in front.

I trust them only as far as I can throw them.

One day I was paying for parts, and asked them why they still advertised for AMC, considering that they've been out of business for years.
"Chrysler decided to keep the colors" was the reply
I made a comment about it not being Chrysler anymore, and that they should be speaking German.
They would not admit that they were AMC signs!!!!

Actually, I would expect a lot more from a Jeep dealer that actually goes back to the AMC days (or before, like mine dealer) than from the new ones who are primarily Chrysler dealers who got Jeep tossed at them by DaimlerChrysler and don't understand Jeeps, don't like Jeeps, don't want Jeeps, but they had to take 'em. Those are the clowns who have no clue about Jeep parts.

My dealer was originally a Hudson dealer, then Hudson became part of American Motors, then AMC bought Jeep, and so they were Jeep dealers. Almsot everyone in the place drives a Jeep, and a significant percentage drive Cherokees. They love Jeeps, and the parts guys (most of them, except the space cadet with the pony tail) really know their stuff.

Those are the kind of dealer you gotta find.

Eagle, you'd like Lou's Sales out in Geneva, IL.

Originally Lou's Jeep from some 40-50 years ago, D/C told them to become a full line dealer. They wanted to remain Jeep only.

They lost their franchise, and have one of the best stocked parts departments I know of. And Ted the parts God is a huge AMC fan.

We have a good dealership, County Chrysler down near reading pa. The parts guy is a BMJA member and gets all kinds of aftermarket toys FOR STOCK no less. They also host the Jeep swap meet and bmja meetings at the dealer. I think pretty much all they sell is Jeep, I've never been there when the show room was open but all I can remember is seeing jeep grills looking back at me from the showroom windows. I'll probably be going there alot more often now that Cabellas is opening up a huge store right up the street in sept.

i FAIN cant stand the dealers here.
In the first place, they sold us this lemon cherokee (which I love with all my heart, but it was real touch and go for a while), and to top it off, whenever I go in there they have terrible customer service, dont know a goddamned thing about jeeps, andwhen I tell them something i KNOW for a fact, they tell me im wrong... and proceed to give me the WRONG GODDAMNED PART!

Needless to say I only go there when i cant PNP the part, because its next door to my work.

Can I get those signs for my garage? !!

It reminds me of going to get the fuel filter thats in the tank witch will give you alsorts of problems if you don't know about it. Any ways I asked for it and the guy looked and look but couldn't find it and told me that there simply wasn't one one an XJ. I told him tto turn the screen so I could see it and a second after he did I said there it is and gave him the item #. I was still 3 ft away and saw it but he couln't with his nose 6 in from it. He didn't like been proven wroung but I hated even more when I know something and these "pros tell me I'm wroung.

I'm sure that if you offered the right price to the GM, you can.

As soon as I get over being sick, I'll get pics for ya.

An outstanding dealership and NAXJA Sponsor.

The Parts Manager is Brian Moyer, who (despite his attachment to his SWB) is a strong supporter of NAXJA and the North Atlantic Chapter especially.

Knowledgable, great prices on parts and they ship - I recommend them to anyone in the region. They are located on PA 61 just south of I78 in Hamburg, PA. Even before the draw of the new Cabela's (ain't that going to be a treat!), it was well worth the drive because of Brian and County.

Brian will also be at NACFest (at Paragon). So, if we can't get you out to enjoy the wheeling, come on by and see a really committed dealership rep.

County Chrysler can be reached at [email protected]
