A few of us headed up to Lost Lake in the Mount Hood National Forest today.
After meeting up outside Sandy at 0900, Josh, Daryl, Nick + Scott, and myself rolled out. We climbed pretty quick up to about 3000' where we began to hit snow. Some pressure adjustments were made.
The snow definitely was not ideal, but we slowly made progress. At times we were cruising pretty well, and others we were struggling for every foot. The rain all day really made for a heavy oatmeal type consistency.
Little bit of back tracking, map checking, and head scratching.
Scott and I were rolling down the road when we came across a brand new Ford Raptor stuck in the middle of the road. The driver was attempting to shove some sticks under the tires. We figured letting Nick hook up to him would be punishment enough.
We dropped down to the other side, and headed up to Lost Lake. Road plowing was going on so we couldn't view the lake unfortunately.
On our way back Daryl took us down to a eerily crystal clear pond.
Checking out some architecture.
Started gaining some elevation and got back into the snow on the way back.
Snow was deep. Josh was plowing pretty good until he literally hit a wall. Nick was able to stay on top and slowly crawl around. Snow wheeling really is about ground clearance and gearing, and gearing definitely was the ticket today.
