We may be putting a race car together for 24 hours of lemons as a squadron race team (Marines, beer, race cars, what can go wrong here?).

While we're all pretty competent mechanics, since we work on airplanes for a living, I've never built a roll cage and the rules are a lot stricter this year.

Unfortunately, we're also poor and trying to do this on the cheap. Does anyone know of someone that can do a 6 point cage that conforms to the rules in the eastern NC/Raleigh area?

Thanks
Josh

24 hour of LEMONS.. awesome goodluck with it man and to forget to bribe the judges.. what are you guys using? and post up some pics when the beast is built

Must be an awful sour race...:D (sorry, couldn't resist)

Where is the Le mans this year?

No really... he meant Lemons. Not le mans.

There is a series that races beater cars. Google it. It actually looks like a friggin blast. Wish I was closer, I could definitely help you guys out.

Here is a pic from one of the races:

We haven't bought a car yet, we're waiting to find out if we've been accepted to the race. We'll have about 9 weeks to thrash and repair/build/create before race day on May 22nd.

One of my drivers has a brother in VA that owns a JY, so we've got first pick on anything that comes in for a reasonable price :D

I'm just uncomfortable bending and welding a cage in that has to pass tech. We can fix most things and bribe the judges for the rest, but we'll get thrown out for a lousy cage install.

tyler at rocksolid has a great bender and welder setup and would definently work with you on the cage, i dont know if its worth hauling a lemon all that way tho ;)

My friend andy could do it. Iron man 4x4 fab. He built my cage and has my bender. I do know he is about 3 weeks behind on cotrol arm orders though. I'll call him this week and see what he can do. Will you guys be supplying the materials and just need a profesional welder/fabricator? I wouold cross post this on nc4x4. There are a couple of guys on there that build buggies for a living.
