Look what I started today

Jeeezzee guys! If I don't post picts every day this thread gets dropped from Front Page status!
So to that end.....

I started the drivers side rock slider work today.

One thing to add, it SUCKS trying to build quickly when you live out here!
I need some damn plate...nothing out here. I need some more tube and some sheet metal too. I hope tomarrows job goes quickly so I can head on over to Escondido to pick up more material. 140 mi. round trip. I need to get the plates for the cage bases and tie ins...

Oh well...what on TV tonight?

Lookin good Rick. Can't wait to see more pics and it in action. I find myself cutting off all the dented stuff as well. But it's been mostly doors and fender stuff. Dave Taylors old doors are already pretty smashed in. Maybe I'll find a black set this time.

Where you going in Esco for metal? Escondido Metal Supply? According to Google Maps my work is "0.7 mi (about 2 mins)" from EMS, and the harbor fake, and I live 15 mins south of there. Maybe we can grab a bite.

I wish I would have picked up this message before I left.
I get my metal from E&S (?) off of Norhldal and Alpine.
Good family run business (if not the most organized...)

Ah, no worries. I've never been there, but I've heard of them before. I've only ever been EMS on Mission, not to far from Nordahl where. I work just pass the Escondido Auto Park.

Don't know if it's any closer for you but Rancho Metals in Murrieta is a decent place to get metal. Its on Jefferson st in Murrieta. From northbound 15 exit at Winchester Rd, go left, turn right at jefferson and go 1 mile, turn right at the corner where Siggy's restaurant is.

Hit up the candy store again.
This time I picked up enough to not only finish mine, but also enough to
start my son's.
Oh crap, the camera's battery just died....can't show you my stash!
I won't be working on the junk tomarrow, another F*ing trip up to Big Bear to look at cabins. I gave the wife this last weekend to make up her (our) minds on what to get.
Sunday I'll be back in the garage!!

Okay, so it kinda' sounds like whining...
but spending ANOTHER day with a real estate agent.....
I don't wish that on Remi!!
:D

I supose that any complaining that the wife won't let me put
a deposit down on a plane until after I get my licence wouldn't
go over very well either?

Rick

Okay, so I got my old ass up early and started the mock up for the frame tie ins on the roll cage.
100_3896.jpg

As you can see they will be welded directly to the rock rails and the frame rails after the frame plating is installed.

Another view.

This is the material I will be using...

My latest addition to the metal supply....

Troy, it takes YEARS of training and practice to get your welds to look like mine! Look like mine and not break the first time you hit a curb!

:D

No pictures today. I have been preping the last rock rail tie ins and sanding off the paint and zink from the frame rails. I'm waiting for the plate work before I do the final weld in.
It might be a while before they arrive, so tomarrow I'll start the rear bumper then go head long into the front support and bumper.

I should have the front 44 by next week....
That will open up another whole can of whoop ass! Or is that 'can of worms?'

:D

If you need some set-up bearings for that 44, I will have a full set here in a few days.....carrier, and pinion...

Justin

Got my old butt up early today to get started.
I made the frame plates first....
100_3934.jpg

Welded them in then completed the tie ins for the sliders and frame rails.
100_3936.jpg

This is what it looks like now.
100_3937.jpg

I ran out of gas for the welder so I decided to take a break. I have a spare bottle so I will be able to complete the tie ins this morning.
This afternoon I'll build the floor plates for the rear then decide what to do next...probably the rear bumper.
