What I need to do is NOT go into the garage without, hmmm...what would be the word....preparing myself?
Building anything is part art and part engineering. The engineering is straight forward. You need certain things to perform certain tasks. Fine...but there is the art of building anything, be it a model plane, or a Jeep. The flow of function. Like most people I have a need to achieve goals in construction while maintaining a certain personal touch to it.
What I am trying to say is that I want one thing but can't always find a reasonable and artistic way to achieve it. I don't want Dave's rig or Cracker's or Ryan's, I want MY rig.
I'm not suggesting that I am not heavily influenced by what I see, specially what I see that works, but I still want what I do to be.... what I do....
And sometimes...that means including a sawz all in the picture.
Okay, enough waxing philosophical...I need another Fat Tire.

That's closer to the truth than I'd like to admit!

It almost went buggy this morning.....but DAMN IT...if I was building a buggy the entire cage would be different. I gotta' keep with my original intent of maintaining the door frames. Believe it or not, that panel I cut out yesterday morning, is getting welded back on, albeit with some support behind it.

This quarter panel project is getting under my skin, and I don't like it. It sure would be nice to get to building the bumpers and the rest of it.

Maybe by the end of the weekend....

:dunno:

I swear this damn rear quarter project took longer to do than the rest of the cage. But this is how it sits now. I know the pillars have no support yet and even if I spent a bunch of time (and weight) the C pillar is not long for this world. Even after it gets torn up it will be staying put.
There will be some help for the B pillar, I need that one to stay in tact as long as possible. Possibly only one trip to JV!

The cross bar will serve as the upper shock mount, it will also need to support the spare tire when I'm running with a spare. If you look closely you will be able to tell how I will be able to add some more sheet metal for inner fenders. Gotta' keep the mud out!

Oh...and I picked this up Saturday too!

DUUUHHH ( total redneck inbred voice ) nope , i taint buildn ona dem dar buggys!!:gee:

yah right, we believe you!! :passgas:

So after a few fat tires...... there was another sawzall attack!
.
So where did you p/up the axle? Thing is already built? ARB and shafts??
.
Keep it going buddy, looking good.

Looks good.. But the reason I went from the body to no body version was that if you look at the b-pillars on the body they are very exposed. and then take that cage into perspective and notice how if your sitting in the jeep and your of any manly size then your shoulder is fully past the cage and only the B-pillar of the body is protecting it. So ultimately the cage is only for the structural integrity? For protection the B-pillars of the cage IMO needed to be out at the body B-pillar area for me. So I had to loose the body pretty much from the A-pillar back. Its looking good though. Just dont go so over craze with the tube cause you will be cutting it out soon enough. Once you relize all that body is just extra weight and in the way for many things. Then your left with a minimal cage and time to redo it all again. those C or actual D-pillars are very weak in that stage. So I figure your adding more in that area as well as the vertual C-pillar area, but other then that call it good and paint it. :-) Whats with the mustang with the low rider convo's on it?
