Look what I started today

I'm not opposed to a roll cage production line weekend. But it would take much planning. One day just to hash out plans. We could get a lot done but completing an entire cage....that might be a bit more difficult. :dunno:
I'm so used to working by myself that the idea of having extra peole is...um...intiguing.

We could probably get the foundation work of three or four rigs done in a weekend.....

How about for a two-door?

Next M&G at Rick's!

For the first time I didn't do any work ON the Jeep. The garage had gotten a bit out of shape and instead of working on the junk I cleaned up the junk!

After the cleaning I spent some time looking at the future issues I would need to deal with. Things like pillar protection (I would like to keep it whole as long as possible) and hinge protection.
I think I got it figured out. I know there are the many who have gone this route before only to cut the rest of the body off soon after tearing up a pillar and not be able to close the doors.
I have two ways around that, one set of rock doors and a set of mall crawl doors. It would work, but I was looking for something a bit more...thaughtful?
How about tube doors that overlap the pillars?
I wish I was a CAD guy but I am not. I store my ideas in my itty bitty brain (and on McDonalds napkins.)
I need to pick up a bunch on 1" tube and get on it. I still might go 1.25 but I don't have dies for that size yet.

Ideas, ideas....

Didn't do an F*ing thing on it today.
The reason;
I had hurt my back a week or so ago and went to the Doc and had a bunch of X-rays done. I had been feeling good enough to work in the garage until Monday.
Monday I hurt bad! It didn't stop me from working on the junk, but the doctor saw me working in my garage and ....well, lets say he suggested I lock the garage up for three or four days if I wanted the back to heal up.
So.....I slowed down a bit. Again he saw me working in the garage (he lives across the street) and this time he called my office (wife's territory) and asked what was up. She got home yesterday and suggested that I might want to listen up!
Sooooooo.....I have promised to take this weekend off.
Tomarrow we head up to Big Bear to look at a cabin the wife and I are buying. Saturday we take the RV up to La Jolla Indian res. for the rest of the weekend. I plan on kickin' it and letting the back get back up to snuff.

Sooooooooo.....I'm taking most of next week off from work to work on the Jeep and to rehab my back.

Oh, BTW the X-rays came back negative and all is good. Just need a break.

Anyone want to work on it FOR me this weekend?

So how is working on the jeep going to rehab you back?
And are you sure you want to let someone else work on your cage? You might be surprised at what you see when you get back.:smoker:

My guess is that by tuesday my back will be fine.

:D

I'd probably come back and the cage would be gone...and you would have a slightly familiar looking cage in YOURS!!

I will post up some pictures of the place as soon as I get back tomarrow night.
One of the criteria was that the place needed room to park four Jeeps.
I'll have the place available for rent....when I'm not up there!

:D

Hey Rick can I have the fenders if/when you decide to get rid of them?

I'M BACK!!
I cut short my long weekend in order to get back to work on the Heep!
My back feels better, although like an idiot I decided to load up the cooler by myself....:nono:
Oh well, it feels good enough to get some welding in this afternoon1
I'll post some pictures tonight!

I think that's my favorite tool.........you'll love it!

I need to get a new one, though, I wore mine out. :D

I got to welding on it today.....not my best efforts. Although there is great penetration I won't win any beauty contests with them. :banghead:

With some grinding and 'beauty' touches they will be okay.

I'll finish the rear quarter tomarrow then start on tie in's to the frame rails.

I spent a lot of time squaring it up....only to find that the damn Heep was no longer staight. Go figure.. :D

I can't wait to do the NEXT one....I have more ideas!
