Logan's metal bumper...

cool, thanks mike...

I was just talking to my dad about exo's. (He runs a built FZJ80 cruiser, that he's taken ALL over the sierra's)

I told him I didn't want anything inside except for the load area, where I plan to have a cage/load barrier built behind the rear seat.

and that I wanted to run a safari snorkel.

he suggested:

-install set of good frame stiffener/sliders
-install good rear bumper (logan's?, etc)
- Start exo @ b pillar behind front door, allowing for rear door opening, tie into C and d pillar hoops/halo, and possibly tie into behind rear seat roll bar/ load area divider.
-This along with a set of grill/headlight hoops welded to front bumper that is higher than the hood, should maintain the passenger compartment VERY well for the rear passengers and good enough for the front passengers in all but the craziest of rolls, though I migh have to wear googles from a pillar crumpling.
-install snorkel to protect my rig from my fondness of the rare puddle here in socal, that I always find myself in.

It would also provide for a rearward, low profile roof rack with simply a floor and some tie-downs (no conferr style rails or anything. maybe a post at each corner to keep lumber from sliding off. and to mount my awning on. I could keep my thule mounts up front, too,(b-pillar forward) to help carry our canoe.
Sounds like a good plan, I'd love to do something like that, maybe perhaps keep the body damage down as well.

that top pic is interesting. not bad at all. The bottom one reminds me of a few hummers I've seen. Check out the "Transformers" trucks on google image, to see what I mean.

I typed in, "Transformers hummer". Check out the second picture of a rescue/SAR type truck.
I always wondered what that front cage was for other than looks. Hummers have an Atlas II brushguard that sorta looks like that, but not as big.

What I'm interested in is, how the heck do you open the hood?

It's usually a swing out type thing, like a rear carrier, but it rolls on the lower bar. The XJ one was an old old trail ready bumper on the skyjacker rescue rig. It unlatched and swung upward. There was a guy on another XJ list a while back that even had one. I've heard anything from to protecting the engine in a roll, to deer. I would not want one. But an exo/interal combo like Matty's old rig with a stinger would be my dream.

you play 4x4evo? 1 or 2? lets go wheelin! :D
Haha yep I have 4x4 Evo 2 on this computer. All the benefits of real wheeling without the wallet burning or body damage :)

Mike, I'll have to look into that, glad you could help. You're talking about the pic I posted from that video game right? I'd like to have one on my Jeep if I could. I might post that pic on the modified section to see if I can get any other hits.

yep, we can go do some wheeling, and you can add custom tracks and trucks to it that have been created by other people. there used to be a really big following for it, it was one of the first good 4x4 games for the PC... but it kind of fell off the radar now.

Haha wow nice, I'll have to go check that out. I used to play the original on the PS2. Can you make monster trucks in that game or is it just the ARB Sierra truck you can buy?

Haha yeah I suppose so. Oh well, at least the information I got was great. I tried looking for that Trailready bumper and can't find it on Google images, nor can I find the Skyjacker recovery XJ.

I might just have to contact Trailready and find out if they have any more pictures, I'd love to have something like that, maybe even expand on it to cover the fenders as well.

Dang!! Is this the thread-jacking of all thread-jackings...???

Nice install. I painted mine silver to match my XJ. I've had it since the end of May. No problems so far.

thanks! and thanks for the info, good to hear yours is trouble free. I'm VERY happy with mine. One of the easiest installs I've ever had.

There something to be said about bolt-on, store-bought mods!
