Locker install Bakersfield

Does anyone know a good shade tree mechanic that can install a lunch box locker in Bakersfield? I have called some shops and they want more for the labor than the locker costs. I have been told that the install is fairly simple for the mechanically inclined.

I was going to get the Aussie Locker for my rear Chrysler 8.25 with the factory 3.55 gears. Any help would be appreciated. I will PM you my cell phone if you wouldn't mind calling me.

the single issue that will make or break the easy installation of a lunchbox locker is... can you get the carrier pin out w/o removing the ring gear... aka pulling the carrier...

can anyone elaborate if the 8.25 installation requires this? if in doubt, he probably wont want to pull the carrier... i know i wouldnt.

No the 8.25 does not require removal of the carrier to get the spider pin out... you remove the little 1/4" 12pt head bolt and slide the pin out.. your thinking of D44 or D30 cross pins.. totally different since the 8.25 is a "C" clip axle.. I hope this clarifies it for you..

Pulling the carrier (and the ring gear) isn't hard. Just remember which bearing caps go on which side.

I used a dremel tool and ground down the teeth that were in the way rather than take the ring gear loose. Never had any problem.

Cal helped me with mine and I gotta say... less intimidating then I thought. Only special tool needed was a torque wrench.

Agreed. Never had one until I started the Jeep thing though, and I know some do not have them.

Thanks for the vote of confidence on the rocket science! I'm not a rocket scientist, but my wife's uncle is! Regardless, you are right, I don't really feel comfortable doing stuff like this. This website has been a tremendous help. I appreciate all the input.
