Local Nashville help on frozen bolt

Just posted on Mod Tech, but wanted to repeat for local guys...

I have a frozen stub of a front leaf spring bolt. I have tried drilling it out to get an extractor in, heating it, cutting an access hole in the "pocket" to access the welds and try to break them...nothing seemed to work.

So, I wonder if my final straw is to weld the front leaf spring bolt from the other side (replaced it with new) to the stub and try to back it out with a wrench/socket/muscle?

If that is the case, this is where I could use some assistance. I don't own welding gear and have no idea how to do it. If and when (looking feasibly now at after Jan 1) it comes to this, is there anyone in Nashville that might be able to come to my place and help me with this welding project so I can get this f'ing bolt out.

I really am at my wits end with this thing. The damn Jeep has been on blocks since mid-November getting worked on an hour here and an hour there.

Thanks y'all.

cut the bolt, between the bushing and the box on both sides of the bushing with a sawzaw, then the leafspring will come right out.

Agreed, cut it on both sides, the spring will then come out, but you will have to remove the nutsert from inside the frame and replace it with a regular nut in order to reinstall the new pack.

Mine did this and broke in the spring bushing. It left an inch stub. I put a nut on it and filled the nut with weld. The heat helped to break things loose. It took a couple of tries. I used a socket on a breaker bar and a lot of cusing. It came out.

I will be happy to help. I have a welder. Just not sure when I can come by.

256 and Willys---thanks, but the spring is already off. I am just dealing with part of the bolt still in the welded nut.

trailrate---sent you a pm yesterday about the driveshaft and mentioned sometime after Jan 1. Heading to the Rose Bowl the day after Christmas, so nothing doing still in December. May take you up on it in January.

Thank all.

Air Hammer! I just recently had a bolt stuck in my upper control arm tried everything to get it out. It may break the nut off but if that happens then just put another nut and bolt on, or it strips the treads and you'll have to tap it.

Trailrate---you didn't get a PM because I'm an idiot. I was pm'ing someone else about the drive shaft. Thanks, though...my bad.
