I'm glad i had the chance to enjoy her final days and sit under the shade of one of my favorite spots in california.

hell yeah its sad, its tragic. That tree was half the allure to that sot. Whenever we got there we'd go straight for its shade and have a beer and enjoy the high life.

Yeah I saw that post yesterday and it is very unfortunate. The tree was definitely a Rubicon landmark and icon. I'm glad I was able to see it (and get some photos of it with the jeep) in years past. Same with Gatekeeper before the blew it up. Once those things are gone, it changes the Rubicon and it will not be the same.

On a positive note, I think we are somewhat lucky that this happened during winter / spring with the snow pack in place. If it was in summer time with all the activity on the 'Con I'm sure there are groups out there that would try to accuse some people for causing its demise.

i thought the same thing, if it had been summer 'we' would have been blamed.
