A note on the Speedo... You can test it with a drill motor running the cable at the transfercase end.
Way back when... Used Car Dealers would tkae a car with over 100k on it and run the mileage up to read around the 50-69k range. This was done on cares that only had the 5 digit displays. They will not run backwards but they sure can be ran forwards...
Just suggesting it as a test for the speedo drive. It is unusual for a mechanical speedo to quit unless the bearing in the head dies then the drive cable will snap. I had to resurrect the speedo in the '48 as if was so full of crap the cable could not turn the magnet (speedo) or the odometer gears.
