Most of ya know I am no motor or electrical guy. In fact i bring the suck in those two areas.

Ive got that 89 4.0 im building for my sister and have a few things I am looking at remedying before it gets put on the road.

fwiw 89 4.0 5spd (pretty sure the peugot), 231 with over 200k (see second issue)

I do have some vacuum lines still a mess that im trying to figure out, so I am aware that is a potential for the issue, but curious if anything else pops out to you.

It has new cap rotor plugs and wires within last 100 miles.

Its runnin rich as a SOB. Idle is consistent at 750~.
Fuel pressure is idel 40psi throttle 50psi.
oil pressure is 35~ idle and 50+ throttle.

Runs great. pretty smooth for a high milage renix. Has some great get up and go, plenty of power, just runs rich as all get out at idle. Any sugestions? New MAP? O2? Trying to host a video to show the jeep running and excess fuel.

Second issue i have is the speedo.

All the guages work on the dash - volt, oil, temp, tach, gas - just not the speedo, and resultingly, the odometer. I can see the cable pluggin into the tcase all the way up to firewall and there are no cracks or abrassions. But speedo doesnt work. Thinking dash?

Thanks guys

I'll leave the renix issues to someone who knows more than me...

On the speedo, pull the connection at the t-case and verify that the speedo gear is engaging with the main shaft. If the gear is in good shape, try re-installing it rotated 90* from where you took it out (mark it), and again 90*, etc. Sometimes those gears are fussy about how they engage... this is all experience from late model cases, but I'm pretty sure the gear interface is the same regardless of whether it is a mechanical or electronic speedo.

Thanks grin ill try that and see what happens. Im short on motivation today after yesterdays adventure.

Is the vacuum line that runs from throttle body to the MAP sensor hooked up? As for the speedo make sure the gear at he tcase is moving. You can also hook the cable to a drill and see if the speedo will work.

Cruiser has a ton of knowledge on renix and his first recommendation for running issues is freshen all grounds make extra clean and re attach. They are notorious for running issues due to poor ground

Plus I may be wrong but I thought remix fuel pressure was supposed to be around 31 psi at idle, may have a problem with your regulator or return line

Ya i need to hop on alldata and check out what my pressure was supposed to be.

Thanks for the input on the speedo guys. Found two problems with your methods and got it all fixed. So thats one thing out of the way.

Ya I pulled the O2 at the manifold and it was pretty gross. Gonna get a new O2 and check the grounds like stated before.

Does it have the high altitude CPS? My renix has always shown rich on the plugs and tail pipe, but always passed emissions easily.

And, have you checked the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator? If there is no vacuum to the regulator(at the radiator end of the fuel rail), it will run rich.

Ill have to check that specific vacuum line.
it does not currently have one. flores or led or someone has one.for it. just dunno where.

I also have an 89 Renix XJ and recently had the same issue.(running rich at idle.)

There are fusable links on these older renix XJ's, located behind the battery. I was poking around trying to make sure they all had power, when I found one that had none. Replaced the link and my Jeep now starts right up and does not run rich at idle. I dont know exactly what it was powering as I havent had the chance to look at a wiring diagram since I fixed it.

Hope this helps point youin the right direction!
