Lift install

I'm thinking install springs, shocks, discos, hooks, and brake lines. I just need to buy the brake lines. I have the rest already. Is that a reasonable amount for a day at the fun factory? Our should I add skids to the list?

I've got bran new brake line extensions if you want them, honestly I'd buy new brake lines seeing how you can get 3 steel braided lines for 80 bucks from some places but if you want my extensions they are yours.

we should be able to bang that out in a day.
i have all the tools needed.
what skids are you looking at doing?

you should look into getting currie steering & a goferit tie rod flip insert.

oh yeah, some sliders & ruff stuff diff covers as well...

I have a stock gas tank skid that I bought used off someone who said it came of a XJ, but when I tried to mount it up on my old XJ, the holes didn't line up but it did fit properly. So it may just mean drilling a few holes to get it on. I may just not worry about it and find another in the yard that bolts right on.

And I was going to run the Appalachian Armor t-case skid. http://www.appalachianarmor.com/products/xj-np231-tc-skid-plate.htm I don't need a full belly skid for what I'll be doing in this Jeep.

I'll probably put off the steering, sliders, and diff covers for now and purchase later as the budget allows.

Suggestions for which manufacturer to get brake lines from? I am thinking it will likely cost me around the same for an aftermarket SS kit as it would to get stock YJ fronts and a Dakota rear from the local auto store.

EDIT: Is this the Currie steering? http://www.currieenterprises.com/CESTORE/Product.aspx?id=1219 And am I reading the price right? Does not look like what I'll be putting on this Jeep. Pretty sure a ZJ setup will work for my needs. :)

yes, that's the currie steering. way beefy & worth the bux.
i have a stock t-case skid if you need one.
i would buy a jcr belly skid instead of the appalachian one.
i hate bleeding brakes, so your on your own with that part. :wow:

I have the same set up and it is nice and is probably the easiest way to beef up the steering as far as aftermarket is concerned.

I would agree there as well. I have the Warn T-case skid, which the Appalachian one is design exactly like. I just had to replace my stock cross member because it was not protected on the pass side and took a beating.

I like how the JCR skid protects not only the T-case but the entire stock cross member.

Awww...come on. Isn't that why I bring the beer and buy pizza for everyone? :) I hate bleeding brakes too. Maybe I can find another sucker at the party.

I guess I'll have to think over part choices for this Jeep. Basically, I am on a budget and I don't plan on beating on it over rocks much, if at all. I would like to keep the weight down where possible (AA skid vs. the a belly skid for example). A stock skid will be fine for a while, so I may just take that off your hands.

And for the steering, I don't need something thermonuclear-bomb proof. I think the ZJ setup will work fine for me. Plenty of other people seem to do okay on it.

Think of this as a stock XJ Rubicon-esque build. That's what I have in mind. Just a little bigger with moderate protection that will retain all street manners, including the sad mpg's that it gets to start with.

no rocks?
right.
thats what i said when i bought my 1st XJ, just a nice stocker to drag behind my motorhome.
then the hook was sunk...

as for the brakes, you can try to con the_weirdo into doing them with promises of beer...

Open tomorrow, huh? I think I could be down to just toss on the springs, shocks, and discos. My next open weekend won't be until the first week of February, I think.

With such short notice, is there anyone else who can make it? I don't know who's been qualified to play at the fun factory. What time would you all want to get started? I haven't participated in a lift party before, but I would think 4 guys would be sufficient - 2 on each end of the Jeep...

Alright, let's see if we can get anyone else on board and get something finalized. Maybe I can pickup a rear brakeline from the store tonight. I'm not concerned with the fronts as the stockers can be made to work pretty easily with up to 3" of lift.

Maybe NAXJA is the "bad" crowd my momma always told me about. You'll start to influence my thinking and behavior until I'm in too deep. :wierd:

If it is official, I can make it over for a few hours.

ok. lets make it official.
i'll be in the shop around 9:00
i'll pm the address.
i still have a case of beer (sierra nevada?) from the last build party.

Alright, it's on! See everyone first thing tomorrow. Any beer requests? I like just about everything and will buy just about anything.
